Summary
Alfred Street Baptist Church is seeking a highly skilled and creative Lighting Specialist to join our AV and Production team that supports a growing congregation of 12,000 members. This part‑time position is responsible for translating creative visions into executable lighting cues, programming complex control systems, and overseeing the setup and operation of all lighting equipment for live events, theatrical productions, and potentially film/TV projects. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with a keen artistic eye and thrives in dynamic production environments. This position is part‑time (25‑30 hours per week) and includes evening and weekend work.
What You'll Do
Collaborate with directors, producers, set designers, and creative personnel to understand production visions and create cohesive lighting designs.
Develop detailed lighting plots, schedules, and technical specifications using industry‑standard tools.
Program and operate sophisticated lighting control systems for live performances, rehearsals, and technical run‑throughs.
Manage and troubleshoot complex lighting networks using protocols such as DMX, Art‑Net, and sACN.
Collaborate with production team during installation (load‑ins), rehearsals, performances, and dismantling (load‑outs).
Perform ongoing inspection, maintenance, and repair of lighting equipment, including LED fixtures, moving lights, and control systems.
What We're Looking For Required
Bachelor's degree in Lighting Design, Theater Arts, or related technical field.
At least 2 years of professional experience as a Lighting Designer, Lighting Programmer, or similar role in live events, theatre, or broadcast environments.
Experience with MA Lighting GrandMA Series (grandMA2, grandMA3).
Experience with CAD Software (Vectorworks, AutoCAD).
Strong understanding of color theory, lighting principles, and their application to create specific moods and effects.
Excellent problem‑solving skills and ability to troubleshoot technical issues rapidly under pressure and tight deadlines.
Strong communication and teamwork skills, with ability to take direction and provide clear instruction to crew members.
Ability to react quickly and pivot during filming and production.
Flexibility to work a varied schedule, including evenings, weekends, Saturdays and Sundays.
Preferred
Strong portfolio demonstrating lighting design and programming work (may be considered in lieu of degree with equivalent professional experience).
Professional certifications (e.g., OSHA 10/30, ETCP rigging/electrics).
