Sr. Director - HCM Implementation & Transformation - Program Lead
The Senior Director, leading the HCM Implementation and Transformation program, is responsible for leading the strategy, execution, and governance of large-scale Human Capital Management (HCM) technology initiatives. This role serves as the executive program leader for enterprise HR technology implementations and transformations, ensuring successful delivery of complex, multi-workstream programs that align with organizational goals, timelines, and budgets.
Heartland Dental is the nation's largest dental support organization, providing non-clinical administrative support services to more than 3,000 supported doctors across 39 states and the District of Columbia in 1,900+ dental offices. Each Heartland Dental supported office is unique to the community and the patients they serve. Supported doctors are the clinical leaders of their practice, retain full clinical autonomy, and establish their own care philosophies. To give you an idea of the team structure, you will report to the Chief Human Resources Officer and you will work closely with cross-functional leaders in Human Resources, Operations, Finance, IT, and external partners.
Duties and Responsibilities
End to End Program Delivery Leadership:
Provide overall program leadership for full lifecycle enterprise HCM and HR technology implementations, including planning, design, build, testing, deployment, and post-go-live stabilization.
Executive Leadership:
Serve as the executive point of accountability for implementation scope, timeline, budget, and quality outcomes across HR technology initiatives.
Team Leadership & Collaboration:
Lead and mentor internal project teams, functional HR leaders, and technology product owners across multiple HR systems and modules.
Partnership:
Partner with external technology vendors and system integrators to ensure delivery standards, contractual obligations, and industry best practices are met.
Governance:
Establish and maintain program governance, including steering committees, executive reporting, risk management, and issue escalation.
Stakeholder Management:
Drive organizational change management, stakeholder alignment, and executive communication throughout the HCM implementation lifecycle.
Quality Assurance & Readiness:
Ensure integration strategy, data migration, security, and compliance requirements are aligned with enterprise and regulatory standards.
HR Transformation & Optimization:
Identify opportunities for business process optimization, standardization, and automation enabled by HR technology platforms.
Change & Adoption Oversight:
Ensure documentation, controls, and operational handoffs are completed to support long-term system ownership and sustainability. Oversee post-implementation optimization, enhancements, and long-term HR technology roadmap planning.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources, Information Systems, or a related field required.
Seven (7) or more years of progressive experience leading large-scale enterprise HCM or HR technology implementations.
Experience leading at least one (1) Enterprise HCM Platform Implementation (e.g., Oracle HCM, Workday, SAP SuccessFactors) required.
Demonstrated experience serving as a program or implementation lead for complex, cross-functional technology initiatives.
Strong knowledge of project management methodologies, governance models, and risk management practices.
Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple competing priorities.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present to executive leadership.
High level of maturity, personal initiative, and sound judgment.
Domestic US Travel up to 50%, sometimes on short notice.
Desired Qualifications
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred.
Experience leading enterprise HCM implementations in a multi‑site or healthcare environment.
Human Resources functional experience strongly preferred.
Experience working within large, highly matrixed, or growth-oriented organizations.
Prior people‑leadership or portfolio‑management experience.
Physical Requirements
Ability to perform essential duties satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation.
