PostgreSQL DBA Location: Chandler, AZ

Overview We are looking for a mid-level Database Administrator (DBA) with strong hands‑on experience in PostgreSQL administration along with solid AWS exposure and Terraform expertise, especially writing reusable Terraform modules.

4 to 8 years of experience, flexible based on depth of PostgreSQL, AWS, and Terraform.

The role will focus on ensuring database reliability, performance, security, automation and supporting cloud-based database environments.

Oracle experience is a plus but not mandatory.

Key Responsibilities

Install, configure, administer and maintain PostgreSQL databases in production and non‑production environments.

Perform backup and recovery planning and execution, PITR restore validations, and DR readiness.

Monitor database health and performance; troubleshoot issues related to queries, indexing, locks, replication and storage.

Plan and execute patching, upgrades, migrations and version compatibility checks.

Implement and manage replication—including streaming replication, logical replication where needed, and high‑availability strategies.

Ensure database security, access controls, roles, privileges and audit readiness.

AWS Responsibilities

Work with AWS services related to database hosting and operations such as Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL, Aurora PostgreSQL, EC2‑based PostgreSQL deployments.

Support services IAM, VPC, Security Groups, KMS, CloudWatch, S3, SNS.

Support cloud best practices for networking, encryption, monitoring, scalability and cost awareness.

Participate in DR strategies using AWS native capabilities.

Terraform Infrastructure as Code (IaC)

Design and develop Terraform modules for repeatable infrastructure deployments.

Maintain Terraform codebase and apply IaC practices such as remote state workspaces, state locking, module versioning, reusable patterns and naming standards.

Secure variable handling, Secrets Manager, Parameter Store integration.

Partner with DevOps/SRE teams to automate infrastructure provisioning for DB environments.

Operational Collaboration

Participate in on‑call production support if required for incidents and problem management.

Create and maintain runbooks, SOPs and technical documentation.

Collaborate with application teams to review schema changes, query performance and release readiness.

Required Skills & Qualifications

4 to 8 years of hands‑on DBA experience with PostgreSQL in production.

Strong understanding of backup, recovery, replication, HADR concepts.

Performance tuning, indexing, VACUUM, ANALYZE, query plan analysis.

Security: roles, grants, encryption basics.

Working experience in AWS RDS/Aurora preferred.

Strong expertise in Terraform, including writing and maintaining Terraform modules.

Familiarity with Linux administration and scripting (Shell, Python is a plus).

Strong troubleshooting mindset and ability to handle production issues calmly.

Nice to Have / Preferred

Oracle DBA experience: basic administration, backup/restore concepts, troubleshooting.

Experience with CI/CD integration for Terraform (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab).

Monitoring tools: CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, New Relic.

Container environments (EKS, Kubernetes) for DB‑adjacent services.

Exposure to security/compliance requirements: SOC2, ISO, PCI.
