Position Summary Under the general direction of the Associate Director of Operations and Outreach, as well as the Assistant Director of Auxiliary Services and Operations, the Communications Coordinator (CC) is responsible for communication functions for Student Housing and Residential Life and Auxiliary Services. The CC leads mass communication and digital media efforts, serves as a copywriter for emails, website content and campaigns, and develops communication strategies that support a variety of Student Housing and Auxiliary operations. The role assists with large‑scale campaigns for on‑campus housing recruitment and renewal, dining, campus store, staff housing, meal plans, and informs current and future students, parents/supporters, faculty, staff, and campus partners. The CC also supports storytelling efforts and facilitates use of data analytics to guide communication decisions. The position requires occasional evenings and weekend work.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Lead mass communication and digital media efforts with a focus on emerging trends to effectively engage target audiences.
Serve as the copywriter for emails, communications, website content, and external and internal campaigns.
Oversee the curation of customer‑focused, meaningful, and engaging content for students, faculty, staff, and parents/supporters.
Write, edit, and disseminate communications (emails, newsletters, etc.) to various audiences.
Develop, write, and edit printed or digital materials, ensuring accuracy and alignment with brand, and translate materials for Spanish‑speaking audiences.
Update communication methods, StarRez templates, and tools to ensure coherence with CSUMB brand identity guidelines.
Assist with the design and development of materials and publications for presentations and panels.
Identify the needs and interests of target groups (prospective students, supporters, faculty, staff, on‑campus residents, off‑campus students) and prepare information accordingly.
Assist with campus communication efforts such as Admissions new student applicant mailings to support retention goals.
Develop and maintain StarRez communication templates for student housing and auxiliary services programs, including meal plan usage, housing communications, academic achievement campaigns, and past‑due balance campaigns.
Assist with management of shared departmental email inboxes.
Develop and maintain comprehensive communication schedules that account for housing processes and auxiliary service timelines.
Provide communication support for student housing and auxiliary services operations by developing audience‑appropriate messaging that explains services, processes, timelines, and resources.
Support Enrollment Management, Student Affairs outreach, and communications efforts as needed.
Collaborate with University Communications to support institutional brand and communication standards, processes, and goals.
Other Functions Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical Work Environment Primary functions require office setting activities such as standing or sitting for prolonged periods, occasionally stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, twisting, lifting light to moderate weight, operating office equipment and computer keyboard, and verbal communication. Technical ability with audio, visual, and cinematography equipment and accompanying software.
Ability to translate complex operational processes into clear, accessible communications for diverse audiences.
Ability to gather, build, and analyze data from multiple sources to meet reporting needs.
Minimum Qualifications
bachelor’s degree AND two or more years of experience writing, editing, communication content for individual and group distribution.
Experience with directly managing or assisting with management of websites and related content; experience with WYSIWYG web publishing tools (Drupal, Terminal4, WordPress, etc.).
Experience with WYSIWYG web publishing tools is required; additional experience may substitute for education on a year‑for‑year basis.
Desirable Qualifications

Ability to use Adobe Creative Suite products to edit photos, videos, graphics, and to layout promotional materials and communications publications.

Familiarity with quick social media tools (Canva, Sprout, HootSuite, Meta for Business).
Demonstrated fluency in Spanish.
