Collision Repair Painter-Technical Representative

Job Description The position is responsible for efficient application of Sherwin‑Williams Automotive products in customers’ accounts, including collision shops, dealerships, production shops, auto auctions, and more. The incumbent will spray product, resolve any common difficulties that may occur during the paint process, identify customer needs, and develop appropriate solutions.

Responsibilities

Familiarize self with all products and procedures recommended in the Productivity Processes, including product application and preparation.

Assist customer in proper selection and application of product to develop an expert relationship.

Support sales reps, branch operations, and distributors with technical and marketing assistance as needed.

Develop knowledge and skills regarding sales techniques and methods.

Assist in color verification and field color formulations.

Assist branch operations and distributors in internal training at all levels.

Develop training aids and implement as needed to effectively communicate information.

Assist customer in set‑up and implementation of mixing systems.

Be readily accessible to customers for advice and assistance.

Build and manage relationships with sales reps and branches.

Identify potential problems and establish solutions with the sales support network.

Give timely attention to customer comments and complaints and advise the Area Sales Manager, Branch Manager, and/or distributors.

Possess knowledge of Sherwin‑Williams’ competitive advantages.

Act as a key technical knowledge source by staying up‑to‑date on industry and product changes.

Control expenses, remain within budget, and maintain required records and documentation; submit reports as required by management.

Efficiently budget technical support calls to ensure the best use of time and company resources.

Maintain accurate records of all demonstrations.

Ensure delivery of product meets customer quality and service expectations.

Conduct oneself in a professional manner to meet customer quality and service expectations.

Operate a vehicle in accordance with all state and federal laws while maintaining an acceptable personal driving record.

Adhere to company safety standards at all times.

Suggest new products when applicable.

Implement or create procedures that help the customer avoid issues or improve their process.

Enter all calls in CRM with detailed and accurate comments.

Troubleshoot product quality issues and implement solutions.

Qualifications Required:

High School Diploma or equivalent

Preferred:

Bachelor’s Degree in a business‑related field

Knowledge & Experience:

Required:

Valid driver’s license

At least 3–5 years working with vehicle refinish processes and products

Preferred:

Prior sales experience

Automotive aftermarket experience

Technical / Skill Requirements

Demonstrated ability to work with Word documents and spreadsheets

Demonstrated high level of both verbal and written communication skills

Demonstrated ability to perform basic math calculations and financial ratios relative to a P&L

Demonstrated ability to make independent decisions

Ability to retrieve material from shelves and floor stacks; lift and carry up to 100 lbs. on occasion

Spend approximately 45% of the day sitting (due to driving); must be able to drive a car or van for travel between sites

Must be able to tint paint and distinguish chromatic colors

Must tolerate non‑toxic paint odors and wear a respirator as required

Must operate a hand truck or other material handling equipment

Must operate a computer and communicate via telephone

Travel Requirements 75% of the time away from home or typical office location.
