The Opportunity This position works out of our St. Paul, MN location in the Electrophysiology division. In Abbott’s Electrophysiology (EP) business, we’re advancing the treatment of heart disease through breakthrough medical technologies in atrial fibrillation, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives.
As the PCB Designer, you'll have the chance to work within a team environment to design and draft complex electronic PCBs, associated drawings, and be responsible for schedules and deadlines.
What You’ll Work On:
Create component symbols and footprints per supplier datasheets and IPC standards
Maintain and support Abbott ECAD Library
Layout of complex mixed-signal PCB designs
Provide documentation for fabrication and assembly
Component pin mapping in complex schematic symbols and PCB footprints
Layout of PCBs for optimal electrical, EMI, and thermal performance
PCB Design rules and constraint management
Perform design rule checks within ECAD tools
Interface with vendors to import and export data for fabrication of bare boards and installation of electronic and mechanical components
Collaborate with Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Teams to determine board shape, hole patterns, and optimal placement of components
Interface with Operations and Document Control to release drawings
Required Qualifications
Associate’s degree in a relevant subject
Ability to analyze and evaluate technologically complex devices
Ability to work in a diverse business environment
Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment
Ability to leverage and engage others to accomplish projects
Strong verbal and written communication with ability to effectively communicate in the organization
Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a timely manner
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance on-site
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Altium Designer
Familiarity with IPC-6011, IPC-6012, and other related IPC standards for PCBs
Understanding of PCB fabrication, limitations, and best practices
Experience using Microsoft Office
Familiarity with PLM systems such as Windchill
