The
Business Development Manager
plays a pivotal role in driving growth within our beverage distribution operations through proactive route sales expansion, new account acquisition, and hands-on development of the sales team. This field-oriented position focuses heavily on identifying and securing new business opportunities, spending significant time in-market with Sales Representatives on their routes to build stronger territories, optimize performance, and accelerate revenue through strategic account development and execution.
Key Responsibilities
New Account Development & Business Growth : Proactively identify, prospect, and open new accounts (including convenience stores, grocery outlets, restaurants, and other retail/on-premise locations) to expand distribution and increase overall market penetration for our beverage portfolio. Develop and execute targeted strategies to secure placements, negotiate shelf/cooler space, and drive initial and incremental sales volume in untapped or underdeveloped territories.
Ride-Alongs & Route Development Support : Dedicate substantial time to accompanying Sales Representatives on their daily routes, providing direct coaching, joint selling, and real-time guidance to help them grow their territories. Identify untapped opportunities, demonstrate best-in-class sales techniques, assist with customer negotiations, and collaborate on action plans to maximize sales potential, improve route efficiency, and achieve/exceed volume and distribution goals.
Morning Driver Checkouts & Operational Leadership : Lead daily driver readiness verifications, including route assignments, vehicle inspections, inventory loading, and documentation, ensuring smooth, on-time departures while aligning operations with sales growth priorities.
Sales Team Leadership & Development : Serve as the lead for the sales team by delivering ongoing training, performance monitoring, constructive feedback, and motivational support. Ride with reps regularly to foster skill development, share market insights, and reinforce behaviors that drive consistent route growth and customer relationships.
Store Resets, Merchandising & Execution : Plan and execute impactful product resets, build eye-catching displays, and optimize shelf/cooler space allocation to enhance visibility, boost impulse purchases, and support both existing and newly opened accounts in achieving maximum sales performance.
Relief Sales Coverage : Step in as a relief Sales Representative during peak periods, absences, or high-priority opportunities, directly handling customer orders, inquiries, relationship building, and sales execution to maintain momentum and demonstrate leadership by example.
Ongoing Communication & Collaboration : Maintain regular contact with Sales Representatives to share insights on emerging sales opportunities, new space potential, competitive activity, and best practices. Actively participate in sales meetings to contribute ideas, review performance metrics, and align on growth initiatives.
Other duties
as assigned by the Branch Manager.
