Summary The Social Media Specialist is responsible for the hands‑on execution of KOA’s social media strategy, directly maintaining the brand across all social platforms and digital communities. Working under the direction of the Social Media Manager, this role drives reach, engagement, and loyalty through the creation of high‑quality content, proactive community management, and technical platform optimization. The Specialist handles day‑to‑day social operations, coordinates with freelance contributors and agency partners, and executes the production of KOA's blog content to ensure it meets brand standards and marketing objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic Support: Serve as a core contributor to the marketing team by executing social media strategies and content plans that align with brand objectives.
Platform Performance :
Execute optimization tactics to meet growth and engagement goals. Maintain real‑time reporting dashboards and provide data‑driven insights to management.
Community Engagement: Execute daily social listening and brand monitoring. Provide timely, on‑brand responses and elevate sensitive issues according to the KOA Service Plan. Monitor and respond to comments, messages, and posts across Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter), TikTok, and LinkedIn.
Content Production: Schedule and maintain KOA’s social content calendar. Develop creative and engaging camping‑related graphics, photos, and videos for Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X, YouTube, and any other platforms that support the KOA brand. Create captions that align with KOA’s brand voice and encourage community engagement. Search for high‑quality UGC across Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, and reach out to users to request permission to share their content on KOA’s platforms. Edit and review blog posts as needed for KOA’s blog. Load content and imagery to KOA’s blog and help manage archiving and updating of current and past articles.
Franchise Social Media Support: Engage with our franchise partners for as‑needed troubleshooting support for their own social media pages. Monthly creation of generalized social posts for franchise use.
Campaign Execution: Implement paid and organic campaigns in partnership with agencies, handling the technical publishing and performance tracking of posts.
UGC Sourcing: Curate user‑generated content (UGC), manage permission requests, and organize assets within Sprout Social or other digital asset tools.
Blog Coordination: Support the KOA blog by drafting posts, formatting content for SEO best practices, and coordinating with internal contributors.
Program Administration: Facilitate the “Get Out There Grant” and social giveaways, handling the logistics of entries, partner coordination, and prize fulfillment.
Tool Mastery: Serve as the power user for Sprout Social and SOCi, ensuring all scheduling and engagement workflows are optimized.
Trend Monitoring: Proactively identify emerging social trends and propose new content formats for the Manager to review and pilot.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Advertising, or a related field
3+ years of experience in social media marketing, content strategy, or related field
Strong written and verbal communication skills; proven ability to craft engaging brand‑aligned content
Proficiency in social media scheduling, analytics, and management tools
Experience with Sprout Social and SOCi platforms preferred
Collaborative, organized, and comfortable working in a fast‑paced environment
Experience with social customer service and community management a plus
Experience in blog content strategy and SEO preferred
Valid driver’s license
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboard, including lifting and carrying a laptop and other small items up to 20 pounds.
Prolonged exposure to computer screen and artificial lighting.
Use of repetitive motion, standing, bending, sitting, lifting, and walking short distances.
May be expected to drive a vehicle to KOA locations, other locations as directed, and conferences which requires close and distance vision, sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, other vehicles, etc. Travel occurs in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
