Job Summary

The overall purpose of the Lifestyle Director position is to provide opportunities for patients/residents to engage in meaningful social and diversified special interest programs based upon needs, interests, capabilities, and previous lifestyles. This position must coordinate, develop, and maintain quality programs that provide mental and physical stimulation to the patients/residents utilizing staff expertise and family and/or community resources.

Qualifications

  • A current and valid certificate as a qualified therapeutic recreation specialist or a licensed activities professional in the state of Texas.
  • Two years of experience in a social or recreational program within the last five years, one of which was full-time in a patient/resident activities program in a healthcare setting.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak the English language.

Essential Functions

  • Assess each patient/resident for interests, talents, and previous patterns of time use, and develop activity approaches based on that assessment.
  • Establish and maintain necessary records regarding activities' attendance and activity care plan approaches.
  • Develop activity goals and objectives for each patient/resident and integrate the activity approaches within the Patient/Resident Care Plan.
  • Identify facility and community resources that can contribute to the recreation program. Plan and schedule activities and develop a monthly calendar of activities.
  • Secure entertainment, program leaders, volunteers, materials, equipment, and transportation well in advance of scheduled dates.
  • Assure all patients/residents are involved in activities: group, individual (bedside) and/or independent on a weekly basis.
  • Ensure 6 activities are held daily and at least 2 evening activities are held per week.
  • Recruit and train a volunteer activities staff and maintain volunteer programs that utilize community involvement.Evaluate effectiveness of programs in terms of patient/resident outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain a budget for activities programs.
  • Coordinate Facility newsletter or other promotions of activities programs through local media.
  • Serve on various committees as requested by Administrator.
  • Function as a Team Leader/Role Model.
  • Have reviewed Cantex Continuing Care Networks Clinical Policies and Procedures for Abuse Prevention and know the employee's responsibility to enforce it.
  • Complete an initial recreational assessment and Section F of the MDS within 5 days of admission and/or change of condition.
  • Coordinate with the NSD regarding the patients/residents Meal of the Month and other food-related programs.
  • Participate in Discharge Planning and recapitulation of patients/residents stay.
  • Comply with protocols outlined in the PCMS #10, Activities.
  • Attend weekly/monthly in-services, understand, and comply with patient/resident Care Management Systems.
  • Responsible for assuring patient/resident safety as appropriate.
  • Perform other tasks as may be assigned.
