Advanced Science Courses - Assistant Director - Neuroscience

The Advanced Science Course (ASC) Assistant Director for Advanced Neurosciences at the University of Colorado School of Medicine is responsible for working with the ASC Course Director, faculty, departments, curriculum deans, and other SOM personnel to create, implement, evaluate, and continuously improve components of the ASC curriculum in which they have expertise.

Location

Onsite at the University of Colorado Hospital Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise faculty who teach within the ASC, including assigning work, evaluating performance, giving feedback, and addressing issues.
  • Supervise SOM staff in developing student and course schedules.
  • Ensure adequate orientation of content, scheduling, assessment, grading, organization, and course execution.
  • Ensure appropriate course opportunities and availability to meet student needs.
  • Serve as a timely resource for students, administrative staff, and faculty (within two business days).
  • Ensure all teaching faculty and students understand competencies and learning goals.
  • Track, monitor and assess ASC components for continuous quality improvement and accreditation.
  • Evaluate curriculum effectiveness with the Office of Assessment, Evaluation, and Outcomes.
  • Review course evaluations annually and provide individualized faculty feedback for improvement.
  • Set clear expectations for student performance to support competency‑based grading.
  • Support faculty in grading and feedback to provide fair, formative and summative assessments.
  • Ensure all grades are submitted timely.
  • Recruit, develop, and provide ongoing support and remediation for faculty teaching in the ASC curriculum.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Hold a terminal degree (MD or DO) from an accredited university.
  • Be able to obtain a faculty appointment (Instructor, Senior Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor) at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.
  • Have performed direct clinical or classroom teaching within the last five years.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Served as a course director for medical student course(s).
  • Curriculum development experience.
  • Medical education scholarship.
  • Medical education leadership experience.
  • Experience teaching in medical student course.
  • Clinical appointment at the University of Colorado Hospital.
  • Experience with clinical teaching in neurosciences across inpatient, outpatient, and procedural settings.
  • Integrity, civility, professionalism, and commitment to School of Medicine values.
  • Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organization skills.
