Senior Motion Designer - Digital Experiences

Work Arrangement

This role offers flexibility with remote or hybrid options. Candidates located within 50 miles of GM hubs (Warren, MI; Sunnyvale, CA; Mountain View, CA) are expected to work on-site three times a week, while those outside this radius are encouraged to apply for fully remote consideration.

The Role

As a Senior Motion Designer within the HID Advanced Team, you will play a pivotal role in defining how motion enhances GM's digital experiences across web, mobile apps, and innovative platforms. This is a dynamic position where your expertise shapes customer interactions with GM products through captivating motion design.

You will blend design, technology, and narrative to create motion frameworks that scale effectively. Your contributions will push the boundaries of visual innovation, incorporating techniques like real-time rendering, procedural systems, and physics-based simulations to enrich the digital landscape of GM.

In addition to delivering high-quality work, you will lead by example, setting standards for motion design excellence, mentoring fellow designers, and guiding product direction through your sophisticated design approach.

What You'll Do

  • Design and produce advanced motion graphics, procedural animations, and simulations.
  • Create dynamic visuals driven by data using tools like Houdini, Maya, or Cinema 4D.
  • Prototype and implement motion designs optimized for real-time deployment.
  • Investigate emerging technologies including GPU-driven visuals and AI for motion generation.
  • Experiment with unique visual languages to set GM apart in the digital space.
  • Ensure all designs remain accessible and user-friendly while raising the overall visual quality.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • 7+ years of experience in animation, motion graphics, VFX, and 3D design.
  • Strong knowledge of physics-based animation and simulation fundamentals.
  • Experience with creating particles and fluid simulations in Houdini, Maya, or similar software.
  • Proficient with Python or similar scripting languages.
  • Expertise in After Effects, Maya, Cinema 4D, and rendering engines like Octane or Arnold.
  • Ability to translate creative visions into robust procedural systems.
  • Creative problem solver with solid animation principles and collaborative skills.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects independently.

  • A passion for exploring new visual boundaries and innovative tools.
  • Familiarity with GPU-driven visuals and custom rendering techniques.
  • Experience creating VFX for real-time applications.
  • Understanding of shader programming and rendering pipelines.
  • Background in web and mobile UI design is a plus.

Compensation:

  • The expected base compensation for this role is between $125,200 to $192,700. Actual compensation will be based on relevant factors.
  • Bonus Potential: Incentive programs are available based on company performance, job level, and individual contributions.
