Camp Activity Specialist (CMPACT)
The Camp Activity Specialist (CMPACT) plays a vital role in creating a safe, fun, and inclusive camp environment for children. These seasonal positions lead specialized activities both indoors and outdoors across a variety of disciplines, including Arts & Crafts (STEAM), Archery, Sports & Recreation, Music, and Fishing. The CMPACT engages campers in hands-on learning, skill-building, and creative exploration while supporting the YMCA's mission to strengthen communities and foster personal growth. Specialty Areas: Arts & Crafts (STEAM) Specialist: Leads creative projects and STEAM-based activities that inspire campers to explore and express their creativity. Archery Specialist: Facilitate safe, educational, and enjoyable archery programs while teaching proper techniques and safety protocols. Sports & Recreation Specialist: Lead dynamic, inclusive sports and recreational activities that promote teamwork, fitness, and fun. Music Specialist: Plan and conduct engaging music activities, including songs, rhythm exercises, and performances, fostering creativity and teamwork. Fishing Specialist: Lead educational and enjoyable fishing programs, teaching campers basic techniques, water safety, and respect for nature and conservation. Key Responsibilities: Plan, lead, and facilitate engaging, age-appropriate activities in assigned specialty areas. Ensure a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all campers. Foster creativity, teamwork, and positive interactions among campers and staff. Follow YMCA policies, procedures, and safety guidelines for all activities, including outdoor programs. Collaborate with fellow counselors and camp leadership to enhance the overall camp experience. Communicate effectively with campers, families, and camp staff regarding activity goals, schedules, and camper progress. Requirements: Experience working with children or leading activities in a camp, educational, or recreational setting. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to plan and facilitate safe, engaging indoor and outdoor activities. Positive role model with adaptability, creativity, and a strong commitment to youth development. Must be safety-conscious and able to respond quickly in emergencies. Current First Aid/CPR/AED certifications or willingness to obtain before camp. Ability to work outdoors for extended periods and lift up to 2550 lbs as needed. Completion of all required trainings prior to the start of camp. Specialty Skills (vary by assignment): Arts & Crafts (STEAM): Experience leading creative or STEAM-based projects. Archery: Knowledge of archery safety and instruction. Sports & Recreation: Experience leading youth sports or recreation activities. Music: Ability to lead music, rhythm activities, or performances. Fishing: Knowledge of fishing techniques, water safety, and environmental stewardship.
