Our client is a well-established organization seeking a seasoned Director of Finance – Government Contracting to join its senior leadership team. This is a high-impact role for a finance leader who brings strong experience in government contracting compliance, DCAA expectations, FAR/CAS regulations, financial planning, cost structure oversight, and strategic business partnership .
This role is ideal for a hands‑on finance executive who can operate both strategically and tactically—someone who can lead financial planning and accounting operations while ensuring the organization remains compliant and well‑positioned for growth in a government contracting environment.

What you’ll do
- Serve as a key member of the senior leadership team, providing strategic financial leadership to support long‑term growth and operational performance
- Lead all aspects of finance, accounting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, and financial analysis
- Own the financial planning and analysis cycle, including annual budgets, long‑range planning, scenario modeling, and operational forecasting
- Develop and improve project budgeting, cost allocation methodologies, and financial reporting processes
- Partner cross‑functionally with leadership and operational teams to evaluate project performance, investment decisions, and business strategy
- Prepare and oversee monthly financial reporting packages and performance analysis
- Monitor financial results and recommend operational adjustments to improve business outcomes
- Lead compliance across financial operations, including internal controls and regulatory requirements
- Support and oversee forward pricing rate proposals and incurred cost submissions
- Manage audit readiness and act as a key point of contact for internal and external auditors
- Oversee financial systems, cash management, and support tax‑related data delivery to external partners
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, CAS, FAR, DCAA expectations , and applicable federal, state, and local regulations
- Supervise and develop finance staff while strengthening processes, controls, and documentation
- Lead special projects and other strategic finance initiatives as needed
What we’re looking for
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related business discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 10–15 years of progressive finance and accounting experience
- At least 5 years of experience in a government contracting environment
- Strong understanding of government contract accounting , including DCAA compliance, FAR, CAS, indirect rates, cost allocation, forward pricing, and incurred cost submissions
- Experience leading financial planning, forecasting, budgeting, and reporting in a regulated environment
- Strong knowledge of internal controls, audit support, and compliance requirements
- Ability to interpret and communicate key financial and operational metrics to executive leadership
- Excellent analytical, process improvement, and documentation skills
- Comfortable working independently, managing ambiguity, and meeting tight deadlines
- Proven success working cross‑functionally in a collaborative business environment
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills
- Active CPA and/or MBA preferred
- Must be eligible to obtain and/or maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance
