Position Overview
The Director of Supply Chain is responsible for the strategic leadership, development, and execution of the company’s end‑to‑end supply chain operations in a regulated medical device‑manufacturing environment. This role oversees procurement, production planning, inventory control, and logistics to ensure the efficient, compliant, and cost‑effective flow of materials required to support manufacturing, product launches, and commercial distribution. The Director of Supply Chain will work cross‑functionally with Manufacturing, Quality, Finance, Engineering, and Regulatory teams to ensure supply continuity, optimize inventory levels, reduce costs, and support business growth while maintaining compliance with applicable regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement supply chain strategies that support company growth, operational efficiency, and customer demand
- Lead and manage all aspects of supply chain operations including procurement, demand planning, inventory management, and logistics
- Establish and monitor supply chain performance metrics to ensure operational excellence
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and development to supply chain personnel
- Oversee sourcing strategies and supplier selection to ensure reliable and cost‑effective procurement of raw materials, components, and services
- Develop strong supplier partnerships and negotiate contracts, pricing, and service agreements
- Collaborate with Quality and Regulatory teams to ensure suppliers meet FDA and ISO requirements
- Mitigate supply chain risks through supplier diversification and contingency planning
- Lead demand planning and production planning processes to ensure alignment between customer demand and manufacturing capacity
- Optimize inventory levels to balance supply continuity with inventory turns and cost control
- Oversee material requirements planning (MRP) systems and ensure accuracy of planning data
- Monitor and manage inventory performance metrics such as inventory turns, safety stock levels, and material availability
- Oversee domestic and international logistics including transportation, warehousing, and distribution of finished medical devices
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, shipping, and import/export requirements
- Optimize freight and logistics costs while maintaining service levels
- Manage supply chain budgets and identify opportunities for cost reduction and operational improvements
- Monitor key financial metrics including material cost, purchase price variance (PPV), and cost of goods sold (COGS)
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and reduce waste
- Ensure supply chain activities comply with regulatory requirements including FDA 21 CFR Part 820, ISO 13485, GMP requirements
Experience and Skills
- 10–15 years of progressive experience in supply chain management within a manufacturing environment
- Minimum 5 years in a leadership or management role
- Experience in medical device, pharmaceutical, or regulated manufacturing environments preferred
- Strong experience with ERP/MRP systems and supply chain analytics
- Strategic supply chain leadership
- Supplier negotiation and contract management
- Demand planning and inventory optimization
- Strong financial acumen (COGS, PPV, inventory metrics)
- Regulatory knowledge related to medical device manufacturing
- Excellent leadership, communication, and cross‑functional collaboration skills
- Data‑driven decision making and continuous improvement mindset
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or related field required
- Master’s degree or MBA preferred
