Summary & Purpose Of The Position

The Director, Field Medical Training, Insights & Analytics role will lead strategic and operational initiatives to ensure a best-in-class Field Medical organization. This role, which reports to the Head of US Field Medical, combines excellence in operational planning, training, and capability building to drive alignment across therapeutic areas and cross-functional partners. The Director will oversee the development of field medical strategies, training programs, and operational processes that support the evolving role and impact of Field Medical within the broader Medical Affairs vision.

This role will serve as a member of the Field Medical Leadership team and will champion the use of analytics to drive smart, evidence-based decision making across the Field Medical organization. This includes overseeing the collection and analysis of field insights, developing robust reporting frameworks, and partnering with internal stakeholders to ensure that data-driven strategies are embedded in all aspects of Field Medical planning and execution. The Director will also lead initiatives to implement AI and digital tools that enhance the team’s ability to anticipate trends, measure impact, and continuously improve performance.

The Director, Field Medical Training, Insights & Analytics will be responsible for leading a team of Field Medical Training, Insights & Analytics Associate Directors that will develop product, disease state, competitive landscape & soft skills training for all Field Medical personnel within each therapeutic area (Oncology/Rare Disease/Neuroscience) and review and collate insights from Field Medical teams to identify emerging trends, unmet needs, and opportunities within each therapeutic area.

Main Responsibilities & Technical Competencies

Strategic Leadership & Alignment

  • Drive strategic and operational alignment for all Field Medical activities across therapeutic areas.
  • Partner with Field Medical Leadership Team (FMLT), Medical Excellence, and Global Medical Affairs to develop annual priorities and objectives aligned with BU Medical and corporate goals.
  • Promote best practices in strategic planning for US Field Medical teams, ensuring integration into global and cross-functional initiatives.

Training, Insights Management & Capability Development

  • Manage a team of Field Medical therapeutic area (TA) Training, Insights & Analytics Associate Directors that will support each of the Field Medical TA Teams.
  • Drive consistency across TA teams and work in partnership with Global Systems team to optimize insight collection and reporting processes.
  • Lead initiatives to expand Field Medical capabilities through designing and implementing comprehensive Field Medical training programs using blended learning approaches (live workshops, virtual sessions, podcasts, peer-to-peer).
  • Collaborate with internal partners and external vendors to deliver innovative training curricula focused on Field Medical readiness and scalability.

Analytics & Decision Support

  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data from field medical activities, stakeholder engagements, and external sources to generate actionable insights that inform strategic and operational decisions for the Field Medical team.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards, scorecards, and reporting frameworks that provide real-time visibility into key performance indicators (KPIs), field impact, and emerging trends.
  • Apply advanced analytics, including data visualization, to identify patterns, forecast needs, and support evidence-based recommendations for territory planning, resource allocation, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Partner with Field Medical leadership and cross-functional teams (Medical Affairs, Commercial, Market Access, R&D) to translate analytic findings into strategic initiatives and process improvements.
  • Drive the adoption and continuous improvement of digital and AI-powered tools that enhance data collection, analysis, and reporting capabilities within the Field Medical organization.
  • Communicate complex analytic results in a clear, concise manner to Field Medical teams and senior leadership, enabling proactive and informed decision making.
  • Foster a culture of analytics-driven excellence by sharing best practices and supporting the upskilling of team members in data interpretation and application.

Best-In-Class Field Medical Operations

  • Oversee planning and execution of field-facing tactical activities, including leadership meetings, off‑sites, and huddles.
  • Manage organizational planning activities (strategic, brand, business, and financial) and maintain an integrated calendar aligned with corporate cycles.
  • Develop KPIs and tracking processes to measure Field Medical impact and ensure compliance.
  • Organize and oversee Field Medical Leadership Team meetings and ensure deliverables are met.
  • Create leadership presentations and reports for senior management.
  • Uphold compliance standards and ensure operational processes align with industry regulations and company policies.
  • Act as primary point of contact for Veeva CRM and responsible for partnership with Global to ensure alignment on Global dashboard(s) and Medical360.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Field Medical Leadership Team, Medical Affairs Excellence, Commercial, Legal, Regulatory, and other matrix partners to implement strategic projects.
  • Ensure clear communication across Field Medical teams regarding deliverables and timelines for strategic initiatives.

Knowledge & Experience (essential)

  • 15 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 12 years and a Master’s degree; or a doctorate (PharmD/MD/PhD) with 8 years’ experience; or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and managing cross‑functional projects with significant business impact.
  • Excellent understanding of industry guidance and best practices.
  • Experience with developing, reporting, and tracking field performance metrics.
  • Experience as an MSL or in a scientific training and development, and strategic planning role.
  • Ability to analyze complex business issues and recommend actionable solutions.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

Knowledge & Experience (preferred)

  • Previous Team Leader experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience in Oncology, Rare Disease and/or Neuroscience strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in CRM, insights system, ACTO, and Medical 360 strongly preferred.

The annual base salary range for this position is $177,000–$259,600. This job is eligible to participate in our short‑term incentives program as well as our long‑term incentives program.

The pay range displayed above is the range of base pay compensation within which Ipsen expects to pay for this role at the time of this posting. Individual compensation within this range depends on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, prior education and experience, job‑related knowledge and demonstrated skills.
