Product Management Overview

The Product Management team drives the development of product definition and planning to optimize the company’s products and solutions. The team applies broad knowledge of company’s product and solutions capabilities as well as the competitive environment to identify new growth areas, new technology and emerging product opportunities. They oversee the analysis and evaluation of key market statistics and customer requirements to define product strategies and identify product opportunities to expand market share.

The Product Management team also evaluates in-depth market analysis and leads business case development for optimization of existing products and solutions alternatives and/or to create the next generation of new products. They collaborate with research and development to create products and validate early product definitions. This role is both strategic and technical in nature and requires extensive industry experience.

The Senior Director, Product Management is responsible for growing revenue, growing profit and delighting customers. As the senior leader of this segment, you must possess a unique blend of business and technical savvy; customer evangelism, a big-picture vision, and the ability to drive vision and mission to reality.

You will lead the product lifecycle from idea generation and requirements definition to product and solutions launch, and go‑to‑market execution. You must enjoy spending time with customers to understand the needs and issues, and ultimately develop solutions to drive the product roadmap. You will represent a major segment of a business unit and must collaborate across Zebra, with sales, marketing, finance, communications, manufacturing and supply chain, product and solutions engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Lead product life cycle from product idea generation to tactical activities as well as balance long term and short term road map needs and requirements
  • Develop overall product growth strategy; set revenue and gross margin goals for the product
  • Partner with Product Marketing in ideation and concept generation for the purpose of new solution and product development; oversee the development of business cases and Market Requirements Documents
  • Communicate/Evangelize the value proposition of the products and solutions to the sales team and help develop the sales tools that support the selling process of the products
  • Ensure specifications and requirements are obtained from customers, channel partners and system integrators
  • Lead teams in the formulation of product development plans, product and solutions technology roadmaps, with input from Marketing. This includes short term, intermediate to long range (2-5 years) product and solutions planning
  • Oversee conceptual studies and market research; generate design concepts for new product ideas or significant complex enhancements of existing products. Proactively canvass internal and external organizations and resources for product and solutions suggestions and ideas. Provide a focal point to which new ideas may be directed to determine feasibility. Interface with engineering and emerging technology teams to determine feasibility, cost and development estimates for generating ROI analysis
  • Oversee collaboration with product marketing, operations, accounting, marketing management and other internal personnel in the development of pricing and cost recommendations. Oversee the development of product and solutions forecasts for use in sales forecasts, product planning, manufacturing and operations
  • Mentor, guide and coach Product Managers and/or Engineers in order to develop and evolve capabilities
  • Ensure and direct the ongoing review of the competitive environment for the product category. This is accomplished through analysis of competitive equipment and compilation of other pertinent findings, and the information thus gained is published on a regular basis
  • Ensure that the organization works with Product Marketing and Marketing Communications in developing product and solutions promotion programs and campaigns to support product launch. Product Management is responsible for ensuring that positioning and factual content are correct, and that timing for release of promotional materials fits with the product launch schedule. In addition, product positioning and pricing strategies are owned and managed by the PM team who coordinate the communication of this information with product marketing
  • Establish, maintain and support ongoing relationships with customers, partners, and the sales force
  • Travel as needed to visit customers, partners, attend seminars, trade shows or meet area sales personnel

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree
  • 20+ years related experience, including 8+ years managing a Product Management group/function in full life-cycle product Management

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree
  • Proficient in enterprise product management and/or relevant consulting or business analysis work experience
  • Proven ability to drive the capture of customer and partner requirements to ensure product specifications will meet the needs
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with strong ability to interact with customers
  • Strong communication skills including written, verbal and oral presentation skills as well as ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from senior management, managers, clients and customers
  • Ability to assess complex market landscape and create focused, integrated product and solutions plan
  • Attention to detail, and strong understanding of complex products, solutions and systems
  • Executive understanding of financial concepts including P&L, balance sheets, and ROI models with delivery of product and solutions through defined objectives
  • Multi-task and manage complex programs
  • Highly creative with ability to think strategically and develop strategic/business plans
  • The successful candidate will be a self-starter; this individual must be adaptable, persuasive, tenacious and perceptive and be able to execute a well-developed plan
  • Extensive travel required to support a global product and solutions organization

Salary

Salary: USD 177,900.00 - USD 266,900.00 yearly. Salary offered will vary depending on location, job-related skills, knowledge, and experience.

Additionally, all Zebra roles are eligible for cash incentive programs. For example, sales roles have additional opportunity to earn substantial variable compensation tied to quota achievement. In most other roles, the Zebra annual cash incentive program links Company and individual performance together. Some roles may also be eligible for long-term incentive equity awards.
