Director Of Accounting – Commercial Real Estate Experience Required

A respected commercial real estate developer with nearly two decades of success and a diverse portfolio of active projects is seeking a Director of Accounting. This is a unique opportunity to step in as a hands‑on finance leader and help transform the organization’s internal accounting function. You will directly impact the business by implementing controls, ensuring reliable financial reporting, and building a future‑ready finance team.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; CPA designation required
  • 10+ years of accounting or finance leadership experience
  • Significant experience in commercial real estate development or property accounting
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple legal entities and complex reporting structures
  • Strong financial reporting, monthly close, and process improvement background

Preferred Background & Skills

  • Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Prior experience with Yardi Voyager is strongly preferred
  • Experience with construction draw processes and exposure to QuickBooks and Procore
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial modeling
  • Experience with investor reporting, waterfall calculations, and distribution management
  • Skilled in strategic planning, budgeting, and interpersonal communication

Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities

  • Oversee all accounting operations, implementing and documenting policies and procedures
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a high‑performing accounting team
  • Produce timely and accurate monthly financial statements for ownership
  • Manage compliance with lender, joint venture, investor, and tax reporting requirements
  • Perform IRR analysis and build pro formas for real estate development projects
  • Monitor cash flow, review loan documents, and maintain banking relationships
  • Review acquisition and disposition transactions and oversee cost segregation studies
  • Calculate waterfall distributions and maintain accurate investor capital accounts in alignment with LLC agreements
