Job Summary:
You will lead the design and development of next-generation DNA sequencing instrumentation. This is a hands‑on, senior‑level role focused on solving complex mechanical challenges at the core of highly integrated life science systems.
Responsibilities
Lead end‑to‑end mechanical design of complex sub‑systems, including electro‑mechanical, fluidic, pneumatic, and thermal components
Design mechanisms for automated reagent and flow cell handling, sealing, and clamping
Architect precision thermal control systems (heating, cooling, sensors, condensation control)
Collaborate cross‑functionally with electrical, systems, consumables, materials, and assay teams
Support system integration, verification, and troubleshooting as the technical owner
Drive design reviews, manage technical trade‑offs, and deliver design documentation (CAD, drawings, specs)
Contribute to future system architecture and technology strategy
Skills / Qualifications
PhD + 5 years, MS + 10 years, or BS + 10+ years in Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, or related field
Strong expertise in fluidics systems (pumps, valves, tubing, sensors)
Proven experience in thermal management and precision temperature control
Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred)
Experience with prototyping, testing, and manufacturing processes (machining, injection molding, 3D printing)
Familiarity with Python, LabVIEW, or similar tools for device control and data acquisition
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with NGS or genomics instrumentation
Use of CFD / FEA to guide design decisions
Demonstrated technical leadership and mentoring experience
