Responsibilities Under the direction of the physician and in compliance with the Arizona State Nurse Practice Act, provide nursing care to patients. Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care; develop and implement the plan of care; and provide care with compassion, tact, and teamwork. Assist with orientation of new staff as requested. All care is provided with kindness and compassion.
Key Responsibilities
Quality of Care and Nursing Process
Provide evidence-based care to prevent Healthcare-Associated Conditions and hospital readmissions.
Practice standard precautions during patient contact and handling of contaminated materials.
Assessment
Complete nursing assessments according to hospital and unit policies, procedures, and standards of nursing care.
Collect pertinent data from patient, family/significant others, and healthcare providers.
Complete a comprehensive patient history and physical in a timely manner, including biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care abilities, educational, age-specific, cultural, and discharge planning needs.
Diagnosis / Care Needs
Derive nursing diagnoses/care needs from assessment data.
Involve patient and significant other as appropriate; formulate a plan to provide appropriate care based on identified needs.
Implementation
Deliver nursing care based on identified diagnoses/care needs and patient care standards; coordinate with therapies of other disciplines.
Evaluation
Evaluate patient progress toward desired outcomes; revise diagnoses/care needs based on reassessment data.

Qualifications Education:
Associate Degree in Nursing or graduate of a Nursing Diploma program.
Certification/Licensure:
Current, valid Arizona RN license or compact state RN license
Current BLS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Unit Specific Requirements Medical Surgical Units:
Basic EKG competency within 3 months of hire
Pediatrics:
PALS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross within 6 months of hire
Intensive Care Unit/ Progressive Care Unit:
ACLS certification required upon hire
Basic EKG competency within 30 days of hire
Women’s Services:
NRP certification within 6 months of hire/transfer
ACLS within 3 months; STABLE within 6 months
AWHONN Fetal Monitor Course: basic within 6 months; intermediate within 12 months
Emergency Department:
ACLS and PALS within 3 months; ESI training within 6 months; TNCC within 24 months
Hemodialysis:
ACLS certification; Basic ECG within 3 months
Clinical Decision Unit:
Basic EKG competency within 3 months
ECHO:
ACLS; Basic ECG competency within 30 days
Surgical Services / Circulator
ACLS and PALS within 90 days; Basic EKG within 30 days
Minimum five years’ experience for full-time weekend/evening/night shifts
Experience in Endo, Ortho, General, Urology, Robotics, Pulmonary or GYN if seasonal
Full-time weekends/evenings shift: no on-call
Surgical Services / PACU / Outpatient:
ACLS and PALS within 90 days; Basic EKG within 30 days
Minimum one year acute care or med-surg experience
Full-time weekends/evenings shift: no on-call
Cath Lab:
ACLS within hire; ECG competency on hire; minimum 2 years RN experience
Cardiology:
Basic EKG competency within 30 days
Clinical Lead:
Maintains BLS/ACLS/PALS through AHA/Red Cross, TNCC, De-escalation, NRP, Basic EKG, and ESI as required per RN area.
Preferences Education:
Bachelor’s in nursing
Experience:
Experience in the respective clinical area is desired
Unit Specific Preferences:
Medical-Surgical: Certified Medical-Surgical Nurse encouraged; ACLS preferred
Pediatrics: One-year acute pediatric experience; Certified Pediatric Nurse encouraged
ICU/CVICU: Certified Critical Care Nurse encouraged; Cardiac specialties encouraged; 1-year PCU preferred
Progressive Care Unit: 2 years acute care; PCU certification encouraged
Women’s Services: 2 years labor/delivery/post-partum experience; Lactation/Nurse certifications encouraged
Emergency Department: 1-year Acute Med/Surg; CCRN or CEN encouraged
Acute Rehab: 1 year rehabilitation; FIMS certification
Hemodialysis: 1 year dialysis or critical care; Dialysis Nurse encouraged
Clinical Decision Unit: ACLS
ECHO: 2 years acute care
Surgical Services: CNOR encouraged
Cath Lab: CCU/ICU/ED experience preferred
Special Position Requirements Exposure Categories:
Category I: Expected duties with routine exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues
Other potential hazards: possible exposure to chemical, biological, and radioactive substances; possible exposure to hostile individuals
Work Requirements
Able to handle multiple priorities; good verbal and written communication
Able to operate standard equipment (phone, fax, computer, etc.)
Able to assist with movement of an adult patient up to 300 lbs
Able to care for patients with infectious diseases
Able to sit 3-5 hours, stand 3-5 hours, or walk 3-5 hours per day
Must distinguish appropriate colors
Capable of reaching above and below shoulder level
