Healthcare Interface Developer (Rhapsody, HL7, FHIR) - Remote (CST/EST) | Contract

Location: Remote (Must work in Central or Eastern Time Zone)
Job Type: Contract (12 Months)
Schedule: Monday - Friday | 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM CST

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Healthcare Interface Developer with strong expertise in Rhapsody Integration Engine, HL7, CDA, and FHIR to support a high-impact public health initiative with the Tennessee Department of Health.

This role focuses on building and maintaining healthcare data exchange interfaces that enable seamless interoperability between hospitals, labs, clinics, and public health systems.

If you have hands-on experience with HL7 integrations, healthcare interoperability, and Rhapsody, this is an excellent opportunity to work on meaningful, large-scale healthcare data modernization projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and implement healthcare interfaces using HL7 v2.x, CDA, and FHIR APIs
  • Configure and support Rhapsody Integration Engine (channels, mappings, connectors)
  • Develop message transformations, schemas, and integration workflows
  • Support public health reporting systems such as:
    • Electronic Case Reporting (eCR)
    • Immunization Reporting
    • Syndromic Surveillance
    • Electronic Lab Reporting (ELR)
  • Monitor and optimize interface performance, data accuracy, and error handling
  • Troubleshoot issues related to message parsing, routing, and data exchange
  • Assist in migration of integration solutions from on-premises to cloud environments
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including clinical, IT, and public health stakeholders
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Health Informatics, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Rhapsody Integration Engine Professional Certification (Required)
  • 2+ years of experience in healthcare interface development
  • Strong experience with:
    • HL7 v2.x
    • CDA (Clinical Document Architecture)
    • FHIR APIs (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources)
  • Knowledge of HIPAA compliance and secure healthcare data exchange
  • Understanding of clinical workflows and healthcare data structures
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with public health data systems or reporting initiatives
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Experience in HL7 to FHIR migration or hybrid integration environments
  • Familiarity with interoperability frameworks such as TEFCA or USCDI
