SITE LOCATION: Austin Community – Chicago, Illinois

SALARY RANGE: $42,000 to $48,000 Annually (Commensurate with experience)

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION The Advisor serves clients in our U. S. Department of Education-funded FOCUS Educational Talent Search Program. Specifically, the Advisor provides direct services to youth ages 11 through 27, most of whom are from low-income families and potentially first-generation college-bound students. The Advisor plans and conducts activities, seminars, and workshops on post-secondary preparation. The Advisor provides guidance with the completion and submission of applications to testing agencies, post-secondary institutions, financial aid, and scholarship programs. The Advisors supervise program clients on college tours and visits. The Advisor also monitors client tutoring sessions. The Advisor maintains professional relationships with secondary and post-secondary personnel to serve clients. The Advisors maintain documentation on eligibility and participation. Weekend and Evening hours, as well as out-of-town travel, are required.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Bachelor’s degree required; degree in Education, Human Resources, or Social Services preferred.

2. Experience working with youth, higher education, and educational opportunity programs.

3. Demonstrated ability to work with individuals of low-income backgrounds.

4. Must have reliable personal transportation.

5. Good and effective communication, organizational, and time management skills are required; bilingual preferred.

6. Ability to balance tasks independently and within a team to achieve programmatic mandates.

7. Ability to work on multiple projects in various settings.
