HDR is currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) for our Building Engineering Services Business Group. Our team is an integrated facility and infrastructure design team consisting of core services of Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Structural and Site Civil Engineering. With a team of experienced Mission Critical engineers, we also focus on Healthcare, Science and Technology, Justice, Power Distribution, and Transportation projects. We are expanding our presence in the Commercial Real Estate, Finance, Hospitality, Municipal, Manufacturing/Industrial, and Federal sectors, providing engineering excellence for our clients by setting realistic expectations and delivering high‑quality designs on time.
To help support our rapidly growing mechanical needs, we are looking for a talented EIT/Coordinator who can meet aggressive deadlines. This position offers invaluable experience working on cutting‑edge technologies across a variety of trades, systems, and stakeholders. The candidate will also help develop our mechanical bench, receiving regular coaching and mentoring to grow their design capabilities and expertise.
Responsibilities
Conduct analyses to develop mechanical design options or recommendations, and assist in the preparation of cost estimates and specifications.
Perform routine engineering assignments with instruction from the Project Engineer or Project Manager regarding expected results.
Work on projects with clear, specified objectives and limited variables.
Work on small projects or assist more senior engineers on larger projects.
Collaborate with Project Engineers, other Mechanical EITs, or Technicians as needed.
Perform other duties as required.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in architectural engineering with Mechanical emphasis.
Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate.
Candidates hired without an EIT will have the title of “Coordinator” and will be expected to obtain their EIT for career progression.
Experience in Healthcare, Science and Technology, and/or Civic facilities.
Experience and/or interest in sustainable design/LEED desired but not required.
Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm.
Experience designing HVAC systems for building projects.
Proficiency in Revit.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, Trane TRACE or similar software, and equipment selection software).
