Field Auto Appraiser (Northern Oakland County Region) – The Auto Club Group Reports to: Claim Manager II
What you will do: Primary Duties & Responsibilities Work under minimal supervision with a high-level authority to handle complex technical issues and claims. Responsibilities include reviewing assigned claims, contacting the insured and other parties, setting expectations, initiating documentation in the claim handling system, completing complex coverage analysis, ensuring policyholder benefits are identified, creating sub-claims, conducting investigations, reviewing damages, evaluating state law, determining financial value, approving payments, referring claims to other units, documenting, coding, and completing all claim closure activities. Utilize strong negotiating skills.
Employees assigned to Auto Physical Damage (APD) claim unit will handle complex claims associated with settling total losses, inspecting vehicles, and preparing estimates. Additional duties may include determining cause of damage, establishing liability, identifying subrogation potential, monitoring repairs, approving car rental expenses, overseeing APD litigation, managing attorney and budget, mediation activities, and settlement positioning. May assist Claim Manager with file reviews and training.

Required Qualifications Education and certifications:
Complete ACG Claim Representative Training Program or demonstrate equivalent knowledge or experience
If an Adjuster’s license is required in state, candidate must be eligible to acquire a State Adjuster’s license within 90 days of hire and maintain it
Valid State Driver's License
Experience:
Three years in negotiation of claim settlements
Securing and evaluating evidence
Preparing manual and electronic estimates
Subrogation claims
Resolving coverage questions
Taking statements
Establishing resolution plans for claims
Knowledge and skills:
Essential Insurance Act (Michigan)
Fair Trade Practices Act as it relates to claims
Subrogation procedures and processes
Intercompany arbitration
Handling simple litigation
Negligence Law
No-Fault Law
Collision repair techniques
Abilities:
Handle claims to the line Claim Handling Standards
Follow and apply ACG Claim policies, procedures and guidelines
Work within ACG Claim systems including basic PC software
Perform basic claim file review and investigations
Effective communication skills (verbal and written)
Customer service skills in building relationships with insureds/claimants
Analyze and solve problems demonstrating sound decision-making
Prioritize claim related functions
Process time sensitive data from multiple sources
Manage time, organize and plan workload
Safely operate a motor vehicle for inspections visits
Research, analyze, interpret subrogation laws in various states
Travel outside territory, may involve overnight stays
Relocate, work evenings or weekends
Preferred Qualifications Education:
Associate degree in Business Administration, Insurance or related field or equivalent work experience
Completion of Insurance Institute of America's programs (General Insurance, Associate in Claims, Associate in Management or equivalent)
CPCU coursework or designation
I-Car ProLevel training
CCC training
Xactware Training
Work Environment May work in a temperature-controlled office or remote/virtual setting. Travel to repair facilities, hospitals, attorneys, etc. Possible exposure to road hazards and temperature extremes. Deployment may be required during storms.
