Tradesmen International is immediately hiring experienced Outside Machinists for projects located in the Newport News, VA area. This is a first shift opportunity, and the pay rate is $45/hour based on experience plus $140/day worked per diem for Travelers 60+ miles from the job site. Job Scope: Installation of hull inserts and shipboard mechanical components Reading and interpreting complex drawings, blueprints, diagrams, and sketches Use of lapping tools and blue checking tools for precision fitting Fit and blue check liners; work with liner sizing and soft foot corrections Installation and alignment of main engine propulsion plant machinery and equipment Perform lube oil flushing and system cleanliness verification Installation and maintenance of valves, pumps, steam systems, and piping Valve overhaul including steam and WOG valves Install and align ALRE pump/motor systems (M-179 & JX) Installation of anchor windlass, winches, arresting gear, and deck ordnance equipment Install and service air conditioning and refrigeration systems Perform AC hydro and hydrostatic testing of systems Install ballast tanks, sea valves, and hydraulic components Installation of mast, antenna systems, and noise equipment Perform optical alignment and precision measurements using rulers and micrometers Installation and repair of boilers and boiler tube replacements Installation of condenser and heat exchanger tubes Testing and troubleshooting main engines and propulsion systems Perform boiler operations testing and distilling plant tests Work on generator systems and steam turbines Installation of low and high pressure air compressors Shafting and bearing work Perform flange makeup, drilling, tapping, and precision machining Operate shop equipment including lathe, boring bar, portable milling machine, and drill machines Operate centrifugal pumps, cargo cranes, and shipboard equipment Installation and maintenance of aircraft elevators, weapons elevators, and hangar/deck doors Perform system grooming and maintain steam plant cleanliness standards Vacation Pay Health insurance 401(k) profit-sharing savings plan Incentive programs Tool purchase programs & MORE!
