Position Overview

Student & Campus Life (SCL) inspires transformation in all Cornell students on their journey of individual, academic and personal evolution. Our division supports campus life matters including public service, health, wellness, social justice, residential living, food services, sports, recreation, career services, and student activities. This role is within the Office of Housing and Residential Life, which provides a high‑quality residential experience for roughly 25,000 students across campuses. Resident Director (RD)

Temporary, full‑time, live‑in Resident Director for Cornell’s Pre‑Collegiate Summer Scholars Program (PSSP). The RD will manage summer Resident Advisors (RAs), providing supervision, student support, crisis and conduct management, housing operations, and most aspects of the residential experience. Responsibilities

Supervise Resident Advisors and oversee student support across the program. Identify and respond to crises, including physical and mental health emergencies. Enforce policies, mediate conflict, and handle confidential information. Participate in rotating office hours and on‑call duties with other RDs. During the summer, incumbents will gain practical experience in campus life, develop leadership abilities, and hone supervision skills. Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree (May 2026 graduates may apply). One year or more of full‑time or graduate‑level experience working in residential settings with youth. Willingness and ability to work non‑standard hours—including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on‑call. Ability to live and work on‑campus for the entirety of the program. Preferred Qualifications

Current enrollment or completion of a master’s degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, or related program. Prior experience working with college populations and/or in an intensive residential setting. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. Evidence of cultural competence and inclusiveness; sensitivity to diverse perspectives. Demonstrated ability to manage complex situations. Time Commitment

The position runs from June 16, 2026 through August 7, 2026. Selected candidates will begin orientation on Monday, June 15, 2026 and depart Saturday, August 8, 2026. Compensation includes a $7,500 stipend paid equally over the program, a summer meal plan, and single‑room housing in the assigned residence hall.
