Summary
The employee will serve as a Purchasing Agent at the Salisbury VA Medical Center in Salisbury - NC. The employee will perform direct medical supply purchasing and inventory management support to the administrative and clinical services at this medical center.
Qualifications SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE : Applicants must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped them with the particular knowledge - skills - and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position - and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable - this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-4 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes: conducting purchasing under the micro purchase threshold; purchasing various equipment - supplies and services; having discussions with vendors/contractors; reviewing - assembling and maintaining procurement related files; and providing excellent customer service to the staff - customers - vendors and contractors.
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE : Successful completion of (4) years of education above the high school level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business - secretarial or technical school - junior college - college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE : Equivalent combination of successfully completed post high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

Duties
THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION - YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION
NOTE: This position involves a multi-grade career ladder
At the GS-5 grade level - you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence
You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-6. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance - availability of higher-level work - and availability of funds
Duties include - but may not be limited to the following: Makes basic purchases of supplies - equipment and/or services
Receives and analyzes prescriptions and requests for prosthetic appliances - services - and medical equipment received from physicians - therapists and other medical center personnel - patients and/or their representatives
Monitors purchases and reconciles credit card billing statements
Completes purchase card order entry on same day the purchase card order is placed with the merchant
Creates reports and spreadsheets
Utilizes various web-based applications to identify required sources of supply
Advises physicians and other professional staff as to the availability - selection and acquisition of prosthetic devices or services
Collects data to determine price reasonableness
Provides excellent customer service to medical staff - customers - vendors - and contractors
Performs other related duties as assigned
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday - 8:00 am - 4:30 pm
