Summary
The Event Sales & Planning Manager's primary focus is responding to inquiries, negotiating and contracting, and servicing events. This position seamlessly connects corporate group, local events and wedding planners with the resort’s operating departments to consistently execute best in class events. The Event Sales & Planning Manager is expected to meet and exceed both sales and service goals as set by the Director of Sales, Marketing, & Events in line with the resort’s business goals. The manager must be confident in managing sales and service expectations while speaking to multiple segments in a seasonal market.
Organization – Thompson Palm Springs Thompson Palm Springs has quickly become the desert’s most exciting lifestyle hotel tailored to influential locals, sophisticated globetrotters, VIP gatherings and social events. Situated at the heart of the city’s iconic Palm Canyon Drive, the hotel includes 168 bungalow-inspired guest rooms and suites coupled with our 8,000 square feet of indoor meeting space, plus unique outdoor venues. This highly visible role will report directly to the Director of Sales & Marketing.

Responsibilities Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Prospect and solicit local businesses and wedding planners with business potential for the resort
Attending the Daily Business Review to provide timely responses to inquiries
Negotiate and contract terms inclusive of F&B minimums, room rental fees, labor fees and rental charges
Focus on upsell and detailing programs with clients including; verification and modification of space requirements, setup and teardown timing, equipment rentals, menus, AV/production needs, theme discussions, decorations, load‑in and load‑out, etc.
Communicate requirements of clients to all hotel departments through event resumes, event orders, pre‑convention meetings with clients, internal departmental meetings, and event order meetings
Weekly forecasting of banquet food and beverage revenues
Must be available to work evenings and weekends
Monitor and control individual event budgets and details to maximize revenues and minimize expenses while ensuring delivery of a quality product
Managing room blocks and pick‑up (if applicable)
Professionally represent the department and the hotel by participating in and/or conducting client and industry functions, tours for contracted groups, planning meetings, tastings, pre and post‑convention meetings, industry events, client entertaining etc.
Develop and maintain positive relationships with vendors and suppliers who provide services to the planners and to the hotel
After the conclusion of meeting, review bill, ensure expedited payment, and post‑conference reporting with meeting planner
Provide a service culture that generates positive event satisfaction, sustained revenue achievement, and excellent internal communications. Success will be measured through HySat scores
Other tasks/duties as assigned by the Director of Sales, Marketing and Events
Qualifications
Experience: 2 or more years as a manager in a lifestyle or luxury hotel in Event Sales or Planning
Proficiency with Hyatt’s proprietary Envision database is essential; as well as Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
Comfort with Opera PMS, BirchStreet and event billing procedures
Desire to satisfy the needs of others in a fast‑paced environment
Refined verbal and written communication skills
Service‑oriented style with professional presentation skills
Must possess the following strengths: high energy, entrepreneurial spirit, effective communicator, customer service focused, and ability to increase revenue and improve profit margins
Must have excellent organizational, interpersonal and administrative skills
Ability to lift, carry, push and pull a moderate amount of weight
Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with people of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds
