Production Designer - YouTube Original Production
Dragonfruit, New York, NY, United States
Role Overview
We're hiring a Production Designer who understands that great YouTube content lives or dies on the visual world built around the talent. Your job is to transform rental locations into stylized, episodic sets that feel specific, intentional, and camera‑ready, sometimes before the camera crew arrives.
This role is prep‑heavy and production‑light. The bulk of your work happens in the days before the shoot: sourcing, building, arranging, and problem‑solving so that when the camera rolls, the environment is already doing half the storytelling.
Key Responsibilities
Set Dressing:
Source and arrange background elements, practical lights, and decor to elevate the visual aesthetic of the location prior to the camera rolling.
Prop Management:
Source, build, or acquire specific hero props required for the episode's stunts, automations, or comedic bits (e.g., a massive server rack, specialized hardware, or visual gag items).
Continuity:
Monitor the set during the shoot to ensure items remain consistent between takes and scenes.
Set Restoration:
Ensure the location is returned to its original state post‑shoot to secure location deposits.
Who You Are
A production designer or art director with experience in commercial, narrative, or digital content production
Strong sourcing instincts — you know how to find, rent, build, or borrow what the script needs on a production budget
Meticulous attention to continuity and detail during production
Ability to work efficiently in prep‑heavy schedules with limited on‑set time
A portfolio that demonstrates range — from minimal, tech‑forward aesthetics to high‑concept physical builds
