Founding Product Designer (UI/UX) New York, NY (Primarily in-person with flexibility)
$100K–$150K base + meaningful equity (up to 1%)
I’m currently partnering with a well-funded, early-stage AI startup in NYC that’s building a modern platform for private equity and alternative investment firms. They have ~$2M in funding, a lean team of three engineers, and are hiring their first full-time Founding Product Designer.
This is a rare opportunity for a high-potential junior designer (0–1 years of experience) to step into a true ownership role from day one.
The Opportunity The product is live and gaining traction but the current UI was built by engineers. The team is now ready to bring in a designer to elevate the experience and establish a strong design foundation.
You will:
Own UI/UX end-to-end
Redesign and refine existing product flows
Build and maintain a scalable component library / design system
Partner closely with a small, high-caliber engineering team
Speak directly with users to deeply understand workflows
Ideal Profile The team is intentionally looking for someone early in their career but high in potential.
Have 0–1 years of experience
Hold a design-focused degree (HCI, Product Design, Visual Design, etc.) from a strong university
Have a portfolio that demonstrates product thinking and craft
Are highly adaptable and excited by ambiguity
Thrive in fast-moving startup environments
Are fluent in Figma
Are open to working with AI-assisted workflows
Nice to have
Experience in fintech or complex B2B tools
Exposure to early-stage startups
This is a peer-level IC role, not managerial but with significant ownership and visibility.
