Graduate Assistant: Marketing Specialist The purpose of this position is to assist with the comprehensive marketing plan for the Department of Recreation and Wellness. This individual provides creative direction to student employees, acts as project manager on large and small marketing initiatives, and helps to implement marketing efforts. Additional duties include representing RecWell at tabling events, writing clear and effective content for web, email, and social, and leading the Student Employment Board for RecWell employees.

Primary Responsibilities

Plan, implement, and evaluate departmental social media strategy

Provide creative direction to student employees

Write and edit copy for various marketing projects

Lead and project-manage marketing campaigns from start to finish

Plan, create, and publish social media content

Utilize basic graphic design concepts and processes

Maintain the department website

Attend professional and student staff meetings

Promote the mission of Recreation and Wellness

Additional Duties

Attend, participate in, or observe various programs, facility activities, or special events

Shoot and edit photos and videos for social media

Engage with students and parents at tabling events to represent RecWell

Track analytics on the various social media sites and report findings

Give and receive constructive feedback

Advise and work with 10-12 student leaders to develop agendas and facilitate monthly meetings

Coordinate committees within the Student Employee Board to support monthly and annual awards and recognitions, fundraising, outreach, community service, and team-building initiatives

Administer Rec Buck employee incentive program

Acquire and audit prize donations and allocations

Assist in planning and implementing banquets for student employees

Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Possess an understanding of various social media platforms

Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication, professional mannerisms, a friendly demeanor, organization, and creativity

Preferred: Maintain a working knowledge of various Adobe Creative Cloud programs (Photoshop, Light Room, InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere, Acrobat, etc.), HTML, and other marketing related software

Requirements

Acceptance into BGSU Graduate College Degree program

Must have access to a smart phone or other technology that can be used with Facebook and Instagram

CPR/FA & AED certified (preferred)Business casual dress requirement

Graduate Assistant: Events, Facilities, and Student Programming Position Summary The purpose of this position is to assist with special events at the Student Recreation Center (SRC), including the planning and oversight of community rental groups and Youth and Family Programming such as Upward Basketball and Birthday Party Program operations. This individual is also responsible for hiring, training, and directly supervising up to two (2) Student Supervisors and various student employees (Climbing Wall Attendants, Birthday Party Coordinators, and special event staff) within the SRC. Additional duties include assisting as an advisor within the RecWell Student Employee Board (SEB), as well as working collaboratively with the Graduate Assistant of Informal Recreation to aid in member services and Welcome Desk operations. Position includes regular use of InnoSoft Fusion, Connect2Concepts, WhenToWork, and other operations software.

Essential Duties and Tasks | Special Event Operations and Youth Programming

Assist with facility rentals and event management (some evening and weekend work required).

Involvement in creating facility reservations and rental contracts for internal and external rental groups, including individual students, student-organizations, and external rental requests.

Assist Student Supervisors in hiring, training, supervising, disciplining, and evaluating student employees.

Direct supervision of Youth and Family Student Supervisor.

Maintain and coordinate Birthday Party Coordinator student employee files, including oversight of risk management audits (CPR, AED, First aid certifications).

Essential Duties and Tasks | Climbing Wall Operations

Assist in the oversight of indoor Climbing Wall operations.

Demonstrate knowledge and competence in Climbing Wall operations.

Assist in facility and equipment risk management evaluations and safety inspections.

Maintain and coordinate Climbing Wall Attendant student employee files, including oversight of risk management audits (CPR, AED, First aid certifications).

Essential Duties and Tasks | Student Programming and Development

Assist in advising and working with 10-12 student leaders to develop agendas and facilitate monthly meetings.

Coordinate committees with the Student Employee Board (SEB) to support monthly and annual awards and recognitions, fundraising, outreach, community service, and team-building initiatives.

Administer Rec Buck employee incentive program.

Acquire and audit prize donations and allocations.

Assist in planning and implementing recognition banquets for student employees.

Assist with teambuilding operations with internal and external rental groups.

Other Duties

Provide excellent customer service and maintain positive rapport with members of the SRC.

Design and conduct staff training opportunities with student employees.

Familiarity with and competence in Student Recreation Center policies and operations.

Attend professional and student staff meetings.

Promote the mission of Recreation and Wellness.

Perform any other duties as required by the professional staff.

Computer software skills

Strong customer service skills, including interpersonal and presentation abilities

Excellent writing skills

Excellent communication skills

Attention to detail

Recreation facility management knowledge (higher education experience preferred)

Requirements

Must be willing and able to work hour a week

All duties and tasks for the position occur in person on BGSU’s main campus

Accepted/enrolled at BGSU in the Sport Administration and/or Kinesiology Graduate Programs

CPR/FA & AED certification (preferred)

Indoor Climbing Wall belay training and certification upon hire
