TOWN OF NARRAGANSETT DEPARTMENT OF TOWN CLERK Title: Municipal Court Clerk Nature of Work: The Municipal Court Clerk assists the Municipal Court Administrator in the performance of his/her duties. The Municipal Court Clerk performs various administrative and operational functions of the Department as directed by the Municipal Court Administrator. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Town Clerk or his/her designee. Essential Functions: 1. Data entry of traffic violations and various other violations 2. Responsible for compiling the various dockets required for all court sessions 3. Attend all court sessions to record the results of all the cases on the court docket, collect fees, and distribute receipts. 4. Collects, posts, and maintains accurate records of all cash receipts 5. Assist in the creation of monthly reports as requested by the Municipal Court Administrator 6. Prepares and receives routine court correspondence 7. Provides information to the general public regarding the status of court files and traffic violations 8. Coordinates regularly with the police department and various other Town departments as needed 9. Performs other such duties and responsibilities as may be assigned and are consistent with this position. Critical Skills, Experience and Knowledge: 1. Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records and reports. 2. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relations with the public and co-workers. 3. Skilled in the use of electronic data processing equipment, including but not limited to, word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications. Minimum Required Qualifications: 1. HS Diploma or equivalent 2. One to three (1-3) years' work experience in an office environment. 3. Valid Rhode Island Driver's License, with no offenses which would prohibit or restrict insurability or bonding by any insurance carrier providing the Town coverage. Physical Environment/Working Conditions/Physical Demands 1. The work environment is within an office setting, although the employee may meet with other employees and agencies in an outside (jobsite) environment. 2. The working conditions (light, noise level, temperature, etc.). are typical of (primarily) an office setting. 3. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move objects up to twenty-five (25) pounds. 4. Specific physical abilities include close vision and the ability to use computer monitors for long periods of time, as well as the ability to communicate verbally in person and on the telephone. Hours: Monday - Friday 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM with 1 hour unpaid lunch. Required attendance at Municipal Court the is held approximately two Thursday evenings a month starting at 6:00 PM
