Day Camp Assistant Director
The Day Camp Assistant Director assists with the daily supervision and operation of the summer day camp program for campers ages 612. This position helps guide campers through daily activities, supervises camp counselors, and ensures a safe, engaging, and structured camp environment. The Assistant Director participates in camp activities and helps coordinate daily routines and programming. This position reports to the Recreation Center Leader. Position is up to 40 hours per week during summer months (May-August). Essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary. Supervise campers and counselors during daily camp activities. Assist with planning and directing daily camp routines and programs. Lead groups of campers through games, sports, crafts, and other recreational activities. Assist in supervising and supporting camp counselors. Participate in camp activities to promote camper engagement and inclusion. Maintain accurate camper attendance records and program documentation. Help ensure a safe and positive camp environment at all times. Report incidents, concerns, or safety issues to the Recreation Center Leader. Knowledge, skills, and abilities: Ability to work effectively with children ages 612. Ability to supervise and guide camp counselors in daily activities. Ability to organize and lead recreational programs including arts and crafts, athletics, and group games. Ability to communicate effectively with campers, staff, and parents. Ability to maintain a positive, energetic, and structured camp environment. Experience interacting with children with physical and/or intellectual disabilities is a plus. Minimum qualifications: Must be 18 years or older. Experience working with children 6-12 years old in a recreational, educational, or childcare setting. Knowledge of First Aid and CPR. Knowledge of different types of arts and crafts, athletics, and foreign language is desired. Experience interacting with children with physical and/or intellectual disabilities is a plus.
