Responsibilities

Generate sales growth in a territory made up of small to midsize accounts.

Maintain and grow wallet share within existing accounts.

Increase our customer base by calling key accounts to penetrate the market and partnering with retail stores.

Utilize Airgas’s sales directives and guidelines to service existing accounts, obtain orders, and establish new accounts.

Develop, maintain, and strengthen Airgas’s customer relationships by traveling throughout the assigned territory, meeting with customers, and maintaining customer contact via phone.

Prepare sales proposals by quoting pricing, credit terms, and estimating delivery dates based on knowledge of Airgas’s production/delivery schedules and software program.

Monitor competition by gathering current relevant marketplace information, including pricing, products, new products, delivery schedules, and merchandising techniques.

Assist in resolving customer complaints by investigating problems, developing solutions, preparing memos/reports, and making recommendations to management.

Develop in key areas of sales, customer service, welding/gas product application, and problem solving; adjust the content of sales presentations to suit customer needs.

Maintain and submit sales reports (daily call reports, weekly work plans, and monthly and annual territory analyses) as required by the District Manager.

May perform counter sales in a backup capacity.

Complete special projects and other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Business or a related field is preferred.

Minimum of 6 months of prior outside sales/service experience.

Excellent organizational, written, oral communication, listening, and presentation skills.

Computer literate (Windows, Word, Excel, email) and ability to acclimate to PC‑based order entry system and wireless, handheld scanning device.

Self‑starter; self‑motivated; operates with a sense of urgency; ability to work independently.

Strong organizational, analytical, and planning skills.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.

Reliable transportation, current driver’s license, and minimum liability insurance as required by state vehicle registration.

Frequent local travel (approximately 75% of work time) with minimal overnight travel.

Job requires visitation of customer sites with varying environments, conditions, layouts, and accessibility.

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with industrial and specialty gases, industrial gas/welding supply sales a plus.

Working knowledge of SAP a plus.
