The Community Health Promoter will support the implementation of health and nutrition activities within Project HOPE’s Gaza Response program. In the context of active conflict, displacement, food insecurity, and increased public health risks, the role contributes to strengthening community-level engagement, health awareness, screening activities, and data collection. Working closely with the health and nutrition teams, the Community Health Promoter will assist in conducting outreach visits, MUAC screenings, hygiene promotion activities, and awareness campaigns. The position plays a key role in ensuring services are community-centered, culturally appropriate, and aligned with humanitarian principles, safeguarding standards, accountability to affected populations, and Do No Harm approaches. This position is being advertised contingent upon award; while the recruitment process will proceed as part of organizational preparedness, no formal offer will be extended until funding is confirmed. Principal Responsibilities
Health and Nutrition Data Collection
Assist in community health assessments to identify priority health and nutrition needs. Identify individuals requiring medical or nutrition services and facilitate referrals to appropriate health facilities. Follow up with referred cases when required to ensure access to services. Support tracking of referrals and maintain records of cases referred to health or nutrition programs. Provide guidance to community members on available health and humanitarian services. Identify individuals at risk of malnutrition, illness, or other health concerns and refer them to appropriate health facilities or services. Support implementation of MUAC screening and other basic health and nutrition assessments. Ensure data collection is conducted accurately, ethically, and in accordance with confidentiality standards. Support timely submission of completed data collection tools. Maintain confidentiality and ensure ethical standards are followed during all data collection activities. Outreach and Campaign Support
Assist in organizing and implementing health, nutrition, and hygiene promotion campaigns. Conduct regular outreach visits to communities, shelters, and displacement sites to promote health and nutrition services. Liaise with community leaders and relevant stakeholders to facilitate smooth implementation of activities. Support identification of vulnerable households and individuals in need of services. Health and Nutrition Promotion
Conduct community awareness sessions on priority health topics such as Infant and young child feeding practices (IYCF), Prevention of communicable diseases, Maternal and child health, Hygiene and sanitation practices and Nutrition and food safety. Promote integrated health messaging in coordination with health facility staff. Promote key hygiene practices including handwashing, safe water use, and sanitation behaviors. Distribute educational materials and ensure proper documentation of attendance and participation. Encourage community engagement and participation in screening and prevention activities. Reporting and Documentation
Assist in preparing daily activity reports summarizing outreach activities, screenings, and awareness sessions. Provide feedback on operational challenges and community concerns to supervisors. Maintain accurate and organized records of activities conducted. Other duties as assigned. Safeguarding and Community Engagement
Engage with community members in a respectful, culturally sensitive, and inclusive manner. Promote accountability mechanisms and ensure community feedback is documented and shared appropriately. Ensure all activities are implemented in line with safeguarding, protection mainstreaming, and Do No Harm principles. Minimum Qualifications
Diploma degree in Public Health, Community Health, Social Sciences, or a related field. Minimum 1 year of experience in community-based health or nutrition programming. Familiarity with community health education methods and behavior change communication approaches. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work effectively in multicultural teams and conflict-affected, resource-constrained environments. Basic reporting and documentation skills. Demonstrated commitment to humanitarian principles and safeguarding standards. Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in Gaza or similar humanitarian emergency contexts. Familiarity with MUAC screening, CMAM, and community health outreach methodologies. Experience collaborating with INGOs or community-based organizations. Training in community mobilization, hygiene promotion, or emergency health response. Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be mobile in an office environment and able to use standard office equipment. The role requires regular movement between communities, outreach locations, and health facilities. Must be able to communicate in verbal and written form and must be able to travel internationally. Project HOPE employees may be required to travel or work in countries where working conditions are classified as “hardship.” Work Environment
The position involves a combination of field-based community work and limited office-based tasks. Work may take place in clinics, shelters, displacement sites, and community settings. Emergency deployments may be in resource-deprived environments with austere living conditions. Travel for extended periods may be by air and/or other modes of transportation. While international travel is not a regular part of every job, programmatic needs may require it intermittently.
