FWSP Student Ambassador (Technical) - GEN STEM

Position Overview This is a Federal Work Study Program (FWSP) technical position operating as a GEN STEM Student Ambassador within the Department of Student Support Services. GEN STEM Student Ambassadors serve as peer mentors to program participants.

Hours per Week Up to 25 hours per week (based on grant budget).

College/Department Overview Student Support Services is a federal TRIO program funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The GEN STEM program is a research‑focused project that serves students in STEM, Health Science, and Forensic Science majors.

Department Specific Job Functions The role of GEN STEM Student Ambassador is to provide near‑peer mentorship opportunities to program participants through academic information, program activities, campus events, student organizations, transition to college, and more. Ambassadors will be trained to conduct student needs assessments, develop goals, and make referrals to campus and community resources. Enrollment Requirements Fall/Spring Semesters:

All student employees must be enrolled at least half‑time. Half‑time enrollment for fall/spring semesters is 5 hours for graduates and 6 hours for undergraduates. International students must be enrolled full‑time (9 credit hours for graduates, 12 credit hours for undergraduates).

Summer Semester:

Students working regular student positions must be enrolled in at least 3 credit hours. Undergraduates must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours and graduates in a minimum of 5 credit hours for FWSP positions.

Enrollment Exception:

If the required credit hours to graduate are less than the minimum employment hours, students must obtain an academic advisor letter stating the number of hours needed to graduate and the anticipated graduation date, then submit it to Human Resources. Contact jobs@uco.edu for more information.

FWSP Requirements To be considered for FWSP employment, students must be awarded work study through the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships. The summer FWSP award is a separate application process and is not included with the fall/spring award. Enrollment requirements for FWSP employment are the same each semester: a minimum of 6 credit hours for undergraduates and 5 credit hours for graduates. Contact Financial Aid for more information.

Qualifications/Experience Required

Must have at least a 2.0 overall GPA.

Must have completed at least 75 credit hours.

Qualifications/Experience Preferred Preference will be given to applicants who are already participants in a TRIO-Student Support Services program.
