Organization & Job Summary: ArtStream is a $1M nonprofit, celebrating its 20th Anniversary Season, that provides performing arts opportunities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in the Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia (DMV) area. ArtStream is currently in an innovation and growth phase, ideal candidates are able to flourish in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment.
The Communications & Outreach Manager will manage the organization’s website and digital presence, coordinate outreach activities and volunteers, create compelling marketing materials, support fundraising campaigns in collaboration with the Director of Development, and support programs and performances in coordination with the Associate Artistic Director. This role blends creative content creation, marketing strategy, and community engagement to ensure consistent brand representation across all platforms. This is a hybrid position requiring some in-person meetings, and attendance at ArtStream activities outside of normal operating hours. Local travel required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Brand & Communications
Represent ArtStream’s mission, values, and programs in all communications, ensuring consistent branding and tone.
Create and manage marketing and promotional materials in Canva for programs, performances, fundraising campaigns, and community events.
Write, edit, and distribute compelling content for newsletters, press releases, performance announcements, and promotional campaigns.
Maintain and update the organization’s website (WordPress) to ensure timely, accurate, and engaging content.
Digital Marketing & Social Media
Manage ArtStream’s social media presence (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube) with consistent, high-quality posts, stories, and engagement.
Develop and execute content calendars and targeted campaigns to increase audience reach and engagement.
Design and send email marketing campaigns through Mailchimp, including newsletters, fundraising appeals, and event promotions.
Track and report on social media and email performance metrics to inform strategy.
Outreach & Community Engagement
Coordinate and attend outreach events, fairs, and performances to promote ArtStream programs and recruit participants, volunteers, and supporters.
Develop and maintain relationships with community partners, schools, service organizations, and local media.
Recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers for outreach activities and events.
Development & Program Support
Collaborate with the Director of Development to design and implement communications for fundraising campaigns, including Giving Tuesday, end-of-year appeals, and the annual gala.
Work with the Associate Artistic Director to create promotional materials for classes, performances, and other programs.
Maintain media archives, including photos, videos, press coverage, and participant stories.
Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Minimum of 3 years experience in communications, marketing, or community outreach.
Proficiency and experience in MailChimp, Canva, Wordpress, and Google Workspace.
Experience managing social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn)
Ability to create structure and process that supports short and long-term goals; meet deadlines and multitask
Ability to work in an entrepreneurial and fast-paced environment.
Commitment to ArtStream’s mission and values, with a passion for serving individuals with IDD.
Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check (following a conditional offer of employment)
Ability to work at events, in social settings, and be able to set-up or break down event materials as needed.
Availability and willingness to work evenings and weekends (performances, auditions, rehearsals and community events throughout the DMV)
Work Environment:Some local travel is required. Hybrid position.
Compensation: Pay:$57,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
