RECREATION SPECIALIST (TR-DAY CAMPS)

General Statement of Duties Under the immediate supervision of the Program Director, the Recreation Specialist (TR-Day Camps) is responsible for the facilitation of recreation and leisure activities in a day camp setting specifically designed for teens and young adults with disabilities.

Minimum Qualifications (KSAs) Knowledge of:

Principles and processes for providing customer and personal services, including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction; principles and methods for planning and implementing recreation and leisure activities for individuals and groups with disabilities.

Skills To:

Understand disabilities and their effects on recreation and leisure; adjust actions in relation to others and actively help people; effectively communicate with participants.

Ability To:

Communicate information and ideas clearly; identify potential problems; listen and understand information conveyed through various communication modes.

Required Education and Experience:

Must be 18 years of age or older; one year of experience working directly with individuals with disabilities; able to lift and/or transfer an individual with a disability independently or with assistance; able to swim and be in the water to provide support to individuals with disabilities; unexpired CPR/First Aid, Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), and nonviolent crisis intervention certification (or able to obtain within 3 months); valid driver’s license if driving is required.

Working and Physical Conditions Environmental Conditions:

Office environment—exposure to computer screens and close collaboration with others; outdoor environments—exposure to extreme weather, slippery/uneven surfaces, and high noise levels.

Physical Conditions:

Duties require the physical ability to lift/transfer individuals with disabilities independently or assisted; standing, bending, stooping, kneeling; general manual dexterity.
