
Race Instruction Director & Head Coach

Wayzata Sailingis seeking an energetic, hard-working, organized sailing instructor who has a passion for teaching and inspiring the next generation of life long sailors, in competition and adventure. Coaching and management responsibilities would include Scholastic sailing in addition to summer(ILCA, 420, Nacra 15). Winter options are under development but currently have access to a company J70 and 2x Nacra 15s. Travel options are open to scheduling and interest of sailors and coaching staff. ORGANIZATION
Wayzata Sailing and the Mike Plant Community Boathouse are a nationally known small boat training center, in the heart of one of the most active sailboat racing communities in the US, Lake Minnetonka. Its facility is within a 15 minute drive of downtown Minneapolis, and is host to an expansive fleet. Our neighbors, Wayzata Yacht Club, maintain one of the largest racing fleets in the country - including Thursday night racing with over 130 keelboats, in 6 one design fleets.Wayzata Sailing itself is a 501c3 Non-profit sailing center, with a mission to create access to sailing for everyone.Equal access to both racing and basic instruction is our passion.We aim to create lifelong sailors in both the racing and recreational sailing worlds. We currently own over 150 watercraft from Optis and O’pen skiffs, to J22s and J70s, along with significant safety equipment. This allows us to offer a broad range of programming including Learn to Sail, Adaptive, Outreach, and of course - top flight racing instruction. Position allows your (friendly) dog onsite, is salary based, with flexible scheduling when responsibilities are met. Includes offtime access to windfoiling and sailing equipment, including racing at Wayzata Yacht club in our J22s or J70s. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY

LEAD RACE TEAMS (MARCH - OCTOBER)
Act as head coach for scholastic teams and summer teams, both onshore and on the water Creation of daily lesson plans & curriculum, communicating and delivering Create lesson plans that build useful skills Coordinate sailorrecruitment, incl. supporting student efforts, creating opportunities, and direct school links Planning and coordination travel including of volunteers and chaperones Managing communication with parents, families, and students through multiple avenues Keep current on policies, rules, and schedules for MISSA/ISSA, MCSA/ICSA, MSS, and US Sailing. Delegate tasks to coaching team, and ensure completion of your coaching plan including: Delivery of lesson plans, supervision of small groups or coordinated coaching sessions both onshore and on water Schedule and manage off site coaching responsibilities, with emphasis on attending levels best suited to groups Appropriate implementation of maintenance duties and light maintenance tasks Plan off-season education and community programming, for public (both our sailors and open to club/public) Support and advertise options to sailors in their recruitment towards staff, JI positions COMMUNITY SAILING
Promote Wayzata Sailing within the community through active participation Create community through laughter, events, fun, and creativity Emphasize the positives of competition before results Model and require respectful communication Promote safety in all aspects of the job while on and off Wayzata Sailing property Communicate respectfully to (and when discussing) parents, students, other employees, community members Support outreach events hosted by the organization as instructor, or group leader, as needed Support other full time staff developing and managing community partnerships ADMINISTRATIVE / REPORTING RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee applicable class management software, including programming and monitoring registrations Manage and maintain all student evaluations and recommendations for future classes Maintain accurate attendance and lettering records (if applicable) Assembling, creating, and posting social media and promotion for racing program Craeation of racing calendars and assist in event selection Create materials for marketing distribution, including community messaging and regatta reports, for mailing lists and contact information in conjunction with Executive Director Maintain and submit proper expense reporting for purchasing and travel accounts Update asset systems for equipment and replacement parts, working collaboratively to keep equipment running Assist Executive Director in event management and fundraising events when required RELATIONSHIPS / PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Build and maintain sailing, racing, and on-the-water skills Advise Executive Director immediately of any issue and/or concern that may affect the WS or students. Maintain optimistic outlook and positive attitude that benefits an organization Encourage personal empowerment and fun for all in the community Construct questions from a position of inquiry and curiosity, not accusation Foster an open and collaborative exchange of information inside and outside of the office. Ask for help before a situation or relationship issue escalates Stay abreast of safety innovations, education trends, new coaching approaches, and areas of future growth JOB REQUIREMENTS
Ability toresponsibility make decisions semi-independently and proactively, Ability to semi-independently define the course of work. US Sailing Certification (Level 1 minimum, 3 preferred) Safesport NASBLA CDC Concussion Unrestricted Class D Drivers License or equivalent Skills to take and complete Level 2 SB Instructor, 3 SB Coach (if not currently certified) Familiarity and passion forclub level ISSA and/or ICSA sailing Ability to pass a background check Effective communicator in person, phone, and digitally Ability to learn and implement new systems, software, and tools Ability to work in collaborative tools (google suite, Monday, etc.) Active sailor & racer (results immaterial, must relate to student experience through participation) Level of curiosity to both propose and tackle new projects Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available for this position
