MINISTRY POSITION TITLE: Director of Youth Ministries
MINISTRY PURPOSE
To provide leadership for the discipleship of youth (grades 6-12) that fulfills the vision for Aldersgate United Methodist Church’s youth ministry. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Create learning opportunities and activities to fulfill the vision for Aldersgate United Methodist Church’s youth ministry. Lead, organize, select curriculum and carry out administrative duties for all youth programming included, but not limited to: Sunday School, worship, fellowship, bible study, service, outreach, summer camp, confirmation and special events. Recruit, train and support volunteers with diverse gifts and personalities for programs listed above utilizing a team approach in ministry. Promote an environment where young people feel connected to each other, valued, and celebrated without judgment. Seek to integrate youth ministry into all phases of church life to create a culture that is intentionally intergenerational, striving to unite with and complement other church ministries. Ensure safe and healthy classroom/small group environments. Maintain ongoing contact with students and parents who worship at Aldersgate and who participate in youth ministry to provide care, invitation and information. Keep parents updated on ministry strategies and plans in a way that encourages their partnership and involvement. Have a visible and active presence in youth activities already happening in our community. Foster cross collaboration between ministries and area churches. Promote the unity, direction, and vision of Aldersgate United Methodist Church by participating in staff and leadership meetings. Carefully plan and manage the youth ministry budget. Stay current with youth ministry practices by reading, attending youth leadership conferences, webinars, podcasts, conference networking, etc. Regular attendance of worship services at Aldersgate UMC. Other duties as required. ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
The Director reports to the Director of Young Christian Discipleship as part of the staff team. The Director is evaluated on an annual basis by the Church Board. QUALIFICATIONS
Gifted and called to ministry with young people. Passion for leadership and outreach. Previous ministry and leadership experience. A maturing Christian. Must have a knowledge and practice in Wesleyan or United Methodist theology or a willingness to learn. Organized, prepared, punctual, proactive, communicator with a positive attitude. Willing to become an engaged member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church community. Thrives within a team environment; with church staff and volunteers. Self-motivated and flexible to changes in procedures and/or direction. Possesses strong computer skills & familiarity with social media tools and their use for ministering to youth. WORK SCHEDULE AND COMPENSATION
This position is part-time, 10-12 hours/week.
