Purchasing Agent

Main Purpose: The Purchasing Agent locates and acquires parts, materials and / or services, with consideration to price, conformance to specification requirements and delivery that satisfies schedule requirements, to promote the production of generator enclosures.

Essential Functions:

Review sales orders, bill of materials (BOM), drawings and / or purchase requisitions to determine requirements for parts, materials and / or services.

Send inquiries to vendors requesting quotes for materials, parts and / or services.

Compile and analyze returned quotes, selecting the best quote with consideration to price, conformance to specification requirements and delivery timetable.

Makes final purchasing decision based on experience and discretion.

Prepare and issue purchase order and obtain confirmation of order from the selected vendor.

Manage the budget and search for continuous cost reductions.

Coordinate with other departments to ensure the timely purchase of enclosure materials and parts.

Develop and maintain relationships with vendors, compiling and organizing documentation of all correspondence with vendors.

Negotiate corrective actions with suppliers for non-conforming purchases.

Follow-up with vendors to get timely response and deliveries.

Perform other duties assigned by supervisor.

Physical Requirements:

Standing, sitting, walking, stooping, kneeling, climbing, feeling, talking, hearing and seeing

Turning, twisting, bending and balancing

Pushing, pulling and reaching

Must be able to lift and / or move up to 15 pounds

Job Requirements:

High school education or equivalent

2+ years experience in purchasing or inventory within a heavy manufacturing industry

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Ability to develop and maintain strong professional relationships with vendors and various departments

Basic mathematical skills

Good working knowledge of computers and software

Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks

Ability to follow detailed and complex instructions

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc.)

Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen and physical

Must be able to pass a background check

Desirable Experience, Education and Training:

Previous experience with purchasing generator enclosure production and assembly materials and parts

Tools, Equipment and Technology:

Computer and office equipment

Environmental Conditions: This role is within an office environment. 10 to 15% of the work activities are performed outdoors. Individuals will be required to work in changes of temperature, hot, cold, humid, wet and dry conditions, dust, mud etc. They will also be exposed to paint thinner and paint fumes.
