Sales And Use Tax Accountant
$70,000.00 to $80,000.00 per year Location: Charlotte, North Carolina Accounting & Finance Permanent LHH is hiring a Sales & Use Tax Accountant to join our client in Charlotte, NC on a direct hire basis. This role focuses on preparing data for sales tax, use tax, and regulatory tax filings; reviewing invoice taxability; performing reconciliations; and managing exemption certificates. The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, analytical, and able to work independently while coordinating with internal teams and third-party tax partners. Key Responsibilities
Compile, validate, and transmit sales tax data from billing and accounting systems to a third-party tax preparer. Prepare revenue detail required for multi-state sales tax filings. Review customer invoices to ensure proper tax application. Calculate use tax for purchases where sales tax was not charged. Assess AP invoices for correct tax treatment and determine where manual use tax must be accrued. Provide use-tax reporting details to the external tax preparer. Prepare transaction-level data needed for regulatory tax reporting. Perform monthly reconciliations of tax liability accounts. Identify discrepancies, research variances, and resolve missing or misapplied tax amounts. Maintain and update annual reseller or exemption certificates across a large vendor base. Review incoming vendor invoices to ensure taxes are not applied incorrectly. Manage documentation for vendors with multiple accounts and high transaction volume. Qualifications
3+ years of sales & use tax experience is required Experience in regulated industries (telecom, utilities, energy, etc.) preferred. Strong understanding of sales tax, use tax, and exemption management processes. Ability to handle large transaction volumes with accuracy. Proficient in account reconciliations and variance analysis. Strong communication skills and comfort interacting with vendors and third-party partners. Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and maintain a high degree of accuracy. Prior experience coordinating data with external tax preparers. Experience reviewing invoice taxability for both AP and AR. Intermediate to advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, formulas). Familiarity with ERP or billing systems. Work Environment & Culture
