
Graduate Residence Director

Under general supervision, the Graduate Residence Director is responsible for the supervision and management of all aspects of an assigned residential area or halls. This position will provide support services to students, supervise hall staff, and oversee all educational, social, and operational activities. The Graduate Residence Director will also assist with office coordination and administrative tasks, and may adjudicate student conduct cases.
Responsible for establishing and maintaining a strong community within the residence hall(s).
Supervise and evaluate assigned staff including conducting regular one on ones, staff meetings and in-service training.
Responsible for daily operation of the residence hall(s) including building opening/closing, distribution and collection of keys, monitoring of room inventories and room changes, follow up on work orders and damage billing.
Coordinate residence hall staff programming including management of programming budget.
Serve as on-call staff for emergencies and crisis situations.
Considered Essential Personnel whose physical presence is required on campus and must also be prepared to address those functions remotely (from off-campus) as needed when operations are restricted or the campus is closed.
Make referrals to appropriate academic and/or administrative departments as necessary.
Be knowledgeable of and enforce University policies and procedures.
Maintain regularly scheduled office hours (balancing daytime and evening availability) and be available to students
Conduct weekly inspections of assigned areas to build community and assess damage/vandalism
Coordinate daily office procedures for the staff and professional offices.
Manage front desk coverage and operations.
Participate in recruitment, selection, and training of residence hall staff.
Attend all staff meetings and professional development sessions as determined by Residence Life and/or Student Affairs.
Provide written reports, summaries and assessment as requested by Residence Life and/or Student Affairs.
Serve on departmental committees as assigned.
Be available for general counseling of resident students.
Assist in the room selection and room assignment processes.
Conduct monthly health and safety inspections.
Perform other duties as assigned.
The Graduate Residence Director (GRD) is required to maintain enrollment in a graduate school program during their employment and make satisfactory progress toward their degree.
The GRD will be compensated for $12,000 for the academic year to be paid in bi-weekly stipends.The $12,000 is subject to taxes.It is expected that during the academic year,the GRD completes 20 office hours per week.Additionally, you will complete approximately four weeks on call over the course of a semester. It is also expected that GRDs work during all staff training periods, hall openings and closings, and a small number of pre-planned nights and weekends for programs or events.
The GRD is required to live in a suite/apartment on campus, which will be provided to them as additional compensation for their employment.The GRD should maintain residence and have an active presence on campus during the academic year and during training periods. A meal plan will also be provided to the GRDs when the Dining Services are open during the academic year.GRDs are permitted to stay on campus during breaks but not required.
GRDs are responsible for making the appropriate travel arrangements to ensure that you return to campus on time for training activities; to remain on campus until the official hall closing time prior to each vacation period; to return to the hall in advance of the official hall opening time at the conclusion of each vacation period; and to remain in the hall after spring commencement to close the buildings. GRDs are to refrain from making any travel arrangements that conflict with the dates and times listed below, or that are provided by your supervisor in regard to training, and the official opening and closing of the residence halls.
