
EHS Director (DOT, Environmental, OSHA)

The Position: We’re looking for a dynamic, experienced Environment Health & Safety Leader who will serve as a Subject Matter Expert to develop and implement site-specific policies and programs to ensure that our facilities are following safety and health requirements per federal/state/local regulatory and Company requirements (OSHA, EPA, DOT & WRM Way standards). We are in the Green Waste recycling industry as a service provider to municipalities, government agencies, commercial businesses, and landscaping businesses.
Responsibilities:
- Manage daily EH&S and Compliance activities to ensure interaction with the facility management team, team leaders, and facility employees to increase awareness and education levels regarding safe and compliant work.
- Assure the plant’s EH&S and Compliance Improvement Plan is appropriate and executed.
- Analyze incident data to identify trends and incident types that can be prevented.
- Perform job site analysis to determine employee and property exposures, and institute safe work practices.
- Support daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual safety inspections, document findings, and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain all site-required documentation related to health and safety programs (i.e. accident reports, inspection reports, corrective action logs, training records, etc.).
- Participate in claims management program with HR team.
- Drive consistency in safety programs across all plants, review and approve corrective actions related to incidents and near-miss events, and participate in tactical planning and support of corporate safety initiatives.
- Conduct physical, documented inspections of all work areas focusing on the identification of at-risk conditions and behaviors.
- Perform regular leading indicators assessments to proactively identify negative trends and recommend corrective action before a loss occurs.
- Continuously assess the leadership abilities of both operations leaders and the safety team and report to Executive Leadership.
- Develop and coordinate the implementation of the organizational Safety, Security & Environment plan that enables the effective management of risks to produce “best in class” safety performance and full compliance with industry regulations, including EPA, DOT and OSHA.
- Ensure robust policies, procedures, and processes are in place and fully implemented to establish a culture where all employees have safety as a front-of-mind consideration.
- Ensure appropriate data collection and analysis is in place to enable identification and prioritization of business initiatives to improve EH&S and Compliance performance.
- Ensure the education and adherence to the Drug & Alcohol testing regime for the organization.
- Monitor the completion of internal audits and inspections and track the closure of identified corrective actions.
- Where assigned, lead cross-organizational projects and multi-discipline project teams.
- Represent the company and serve as liaison to such agencies as the EPA, OSHA & DOT.
- Request and review background investigation reports such as MVR’s, CDLIS, and PSP reports.
- Track all driver credentials and send renewal notification reports to site managers.
- Maintain terminated driver DQ files and complete employment verifications as requested.
- Maintain all driver qualification files, following the checklists and coordinating and communicating needs with site managers.
- Support site managers in the performance of driver and operator training and related observations and reporting.
- Demonstrated leadership with a focus on organizational performance alignment and building a culture of trust & integrity.
- A history of Building Partnerships and leveraging both internal and external relationships to persuade others to take action.
- Proven decision-making and high-impact communication skills.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
- Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without needing sponsorship now or in the future for employment visa status.
- Bachelor's degree required and a minimum of 8 years of related experience (with an HSE degree/certification), or a minimum of 10 years of related experience (in the absence of any of the above degrees/certification).
- Must have a minimum of at least 8 years of Environmental, Health & Safety experience.
- Working knowledge of federal, state, and local health and safety, and environmental regulations is required.
- Experience working in any one or multiple of the following is essential: Chemical processing and refining environments, manufacturing, food processing, pharmaceutical/biotechnology, construction, heavy industry, and facility maintenance and management.
- Must have experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) Preferred.
Qualifications:
- Working experience of Process Safety Management (PSM).
- Degree with a major in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering or Business.
- Previous experience in a manufacturing, distribution, or operations environment.
- Previous experience leading an OSHA VPP Audit or maintaining VPP Status.
- Previous supervisory experience.
- Previous experience using continuous improvement tools such as Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, 5-S or Six Sigma.
- Previous experience and understanding of environmental regulations, requirements and programs.
CERTIFICATES and/or LICENSES:
- As required by local authority (if required): Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Hazardous Material Manager (CHMM), Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST) – Preferred.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $110,000.00 - $145,000.00 per year
Schedule:
- Monday to Friday.
- Up to 75% travel.
Experience:
- EHS: 10 years (Required).
- Creating policies: 8 years (Preferred).
- Managing / Supervising EHS department: 8 years (Preferred).
- Working with EPA, OSHA & DOT: 5 years (Preferred).
Ability to Commute:
- Dallas-Fort Worth, TX; Houston, TX, Tennessee, Multiple locations in Texas, Houston and Tennessee (Required).
