Summary
Joining the Secret Service as a Special Agent allows you to perform critical protective and investigative assignments. The position starts at a base salary of $48,854 (GL‑07, step 1) and may rise to $118,204 (GS‑13, step 10). Additional compensation includes Law Enforcement Availability Pay (25% of base), and recruitment bonuses up to $40,000.
Responsibilities
Conduct complex criminal investigations into financial crimes, including counterfeiting, cyber fraud, and other threats to the financial infrastructure of the United States.
Provide physical protection for the President, Vice President, their families, visiting foreign dignitaries, and other protectees, ensuring their safety in every environment.
Design, plan, and implement advanced security measures for National Special Security Events (NSSEs), such as presidential inaugurations, international summits, and other high‑profile events.
Requirements
U.S. citizenship.
Valid driver’s license, REAL‑ID compliant.
Age 21–39 (under 40 at referral, with possible exceptions for prior federal law‑enforcement service).
Drug‑free record; subject to drug testing.
Top‑secret clearance and ability to retain it during career.
Automatic credit check and firearm proficiency.
Ability to pass physical fitness assessment (APAT).
Man-hours:
submitable via official US government platform.
Qualifications
GL‑07: bachelor’s degree with superior academic achievement or one full year of graduate education or one year of specialized experience equivalent to GL‑5.
GL‑09: master’s degree or two full years of graduate education; or one year of specialized experience equivalent to GL‑7; or a combination.
GS‑11: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or one year of specialized experience equivalent to GL‑9; or a combination.
