POSITION SUMMARY The High School Life Pastor will plan, organize, develop and direct a comprehensive ministry for high school students (9th-12th grade), aligning the ministry mission with the overall church vision to Glorify God Together through LIFE. Build the ministry by being in relationship with leaders, students, and parents, and develop, lead and partner with the Student Life team, currently consisting of a full-time Junior High Life Director, part‑time staff, and volunteers, as part of the Family Life team.

Accountability: This position is led by the Family Life Pastor, the Executive Pastor, and the Senior Pastor. The High School Life philosophy of ministry and accompanying programs will support the overall mission and values of Student Life and Calvary LIFE as a whole.

DEPARTMENTAL RESPONSIBILITIES Teaching

Commit to regular Biblical study, exegetical teaching, and appropriate Biblical interpretation and application of God’s Word.

Prayerfully lead through the development and writing of teaching material, curriculum, series vision and outline and messages for High School Life.

Be the primary teacher/preacher for High School Life environments, while developing and enabling a teaching team with High School Life and Student Life staff.

Leadership

Create and cast a Christ-centered and prayerful vision for High School Life, its students, parents, families, volunteers and staff.

Carry out the momentum, strategy, organization and vision of High School Life.

Work closely with Student Life staff to fulfill and develop the overall vision and ministry for Student Life.

Formulate ministry plans and budgets that align with each area of Student Life as well as the other ministries of Calvary LIFE.

Measure performance against strategies, tactics, action plans, and budgets.

Develop an effective organizational structure to achieve action plans.

Recruit and hire High School Life staff together with the Executive Pastor, when applicable.

Provide direction, spiritual oversight, vision, strategic development and coaching for High School Life staff and volunteers.

Oversee the recruiting, training and development of High School Life volunteers, maintaining a high standard of excellence in those chosen for leadership.

Develop and manage a discipleship strategy to integrate High School Students into the main body pre and post graduation.

Development and Implementation of Ministry Environments

Create vision for the organization, design and oversight of High School Life environments including but not limited to weekend and mid‑week studies, student leadership ministries, summer and winter camps, outreach events and trips, and ongoing special activities and events.

Oversee the integration and involvement of volunteers throughout the ministries of High School Life.

Partner, develop resources, and support high school families through communication, parent meetings, parent education, pastoral counseling, etc.

Actively participate in the High School Life environments whether through direct leadership or support leadership of other High School and Student Life Staff.

Ministry Staff

Meet regularly with the Family Life Pastor.

Meet regularly with the High School Life team.

Be informed and knowledgeable of trends and culture as it relates to High School ministry.

PASTORAL RESPONSIBILITIES Pastoral Responsibilities define the type of relationship we want each pastor and ministry leader at Calvary LIFE to have with the entire congregation. These responsibilities are not limited to a specific ministry area and are as follows:

Learn the Word.

Be committed to growing in your personal understanding of God’s word as an active and motivated student of the Word, establishing you as a man of God who is able to effectively teach and disciple through the Word.

Invest into Relationships.

Take time to proactively build relationships that are Christ-centered and faith‑building with students, parents, teammates and volunteers.

Follow the way of Christ.

We define this as Paul, Barnabas, and Timothy. Have someone above you leading you in the way of Christ, someone beside you (a peer) spurring you on in the way of Christ, and someone beneath you (a disciple) you are leading in the way of Christ.

Engage your World.

Actively participate in a lifestyle of outreach to seek and save the lost. This requires making outreach part of High School Life, engaging the ministry in corporate church outreach events, and cultivated in every student a heart for outreach.

Fullify the roles and responsibilities of a Pastor as part of the Pastoral Team:

This requires that a pastor be in offices, homes, hospitals, coffee shops, etc.

Pray with and for people. A pastor is available to pray, listen, and give pastoral counsel.

Be available for Funerals, Weddings, Child Dedications, and Baptisms. It is an honor and privilege to come along people in time of joy and pain. A pastor considers these life stage events as a priority in their calling.

Participate in the Pastor on Call rotation so you are available when someone in the congregation has a critical need.

PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Actively maintain an intimate, personal relationship with God.

Daily practice the LIFE acronym of learning the word, investing into relationships, following the way of God, and engaging our world.

Remain connected and growing with the church community as an active participant in weekly Church services.

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Education:

Degree in Youth Ministry, Bible or other related. Affirms and aligns with Calvary LIFE’s doctrinal position.

Minimum Experience:

2‑5 years of applicable experience, developing ministry programs, teams and ministry vision.

Minimum Skills:

Proven leadership and management experience. Proven ability to motivate, encourage and mentor staff. Proven ability to multitask several projects at one time. Shows an established commitment to students and their spiritual growth. Strong communication and teaching skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS The employee must possess mobility to work in a standard office environment and to use standard office equipment, including a computer. Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision to read printed material and a computer screen, close vision, color vision and depth perception; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. The employee must also frequently use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, controls. The employee must be able to drive and attend meetings at various sites and run errands. The employee must be able to naturally engage in conversation with staff members and every congregant, regardless of age or ethnicity.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
