Job Summary Private Client Services at BDO is a boutique practice within our firm. We offer a high‑touch approach, serving high‑net‑worth individuals, families, family offices, C‑suite executives, athletes, entertainers, and others with complicated tax and financial structures. The practice provides estate, income, gift, and trust tax consulting and compliance; charitable giving and philanthropic foundations; executive compensation; and cash‑flow, retirement, and life insurance planning.

A Tax Senior in Private Client Services will leverage educational background, professional experience, and strong communication, time‑management, leadership, technical, business‑development, and people skills to deliver tax compliance and consulting services to our high‑net‑worth clients.

Job Duties

Participate in tax and consulting engagements, enhancing skills by identifying and addressing client needs.

Work with clients and their advisors to gather information required to prepare tax returns.

Prepare complex individual, trust, estate, S‑Corp, foundation, partnership, and gift tax returns in Federal and State jurisdictions, following instructions and actively seeking feedback.

Review basic individual and trust tax returns, providing written and verbal feedback to staff and interns.

Analyze tax notices received from government agencies and draft initial responses.

Identify technical issues, conduct advanced tax research, and develop sound recommendations for PCS leadership.

Work in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment both independently and as part of a team.

Prioritize and complete tasks.

Collaborate and build new relationships with other professionals inside and outside the firm.

Supervisory Responsibilities

May supervise and manage day‑to‑day work assignments of PCS Associates.

Provide verbal and written performance feedback to PCS Associates as necessary.

Act as a mentor to PCS Associates.

Education Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics, required; OR Bachelor’s degree in another focus area with CPA certification, required.

Master’s degree in Accountancy or Taxation, preferred.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Strong academic foundation and professional credentials (e.g., CPA, Attorney, or Enrolled Agent).

Excellent analytical, research, and problem‑solving skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat.

Experience with tax compliance process software such as GoSystems, BNA Tax Planner, GoFileRoom, or SurePrep.

Experience with tax research tools such as BNA Portfolio, CCH IntelliConnect, Checkpoint, and Lexis Nexis.

Initiative, self‑starter, and commitment to meeting weekly/engagement hour expectations.

Effective verbal and written communication, synthesizing complex thoughts into clear, concise language.

Leadership by example, perseverance through challenges, and completion of tasks.

Business development skills: building and maintaining relationships with BDO professionals and external sources.

People development: training associates and interns on software tools and PCS methodology.

Experience

Two or more years of relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services experience, required.

Experience in private client service, preferred.

Prior basic supervisory experience, preferred.

License/Certifications

CPA certification, Attorney (U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (EA), preferred.

Other professional degrees or certifications applicable to the role, preferred.

California: $84,000 - $110,000

Colorado: $72,000 - $90,000

Illinois: $80,000 - $93,000

Maryland: $90,000 - $94,000

Massachusetts: $90,000 - $100,000

Minnesota: $75,000 - $84,000

New Jersey: $82,000 - $112,000

NYC/Long Island/Westchester: $100,000 - $118,000

Washington: $80,000 - $95,000

Washington DC: $93,000 - $98,000
