Job Purpose: The Marketing Specialist will provide support to all Park District departments (Recreation, Parks, Facilities and the Foundation) for internal and external advancement and support of a consistent brand message for the West Fargo Park District and its sub-brands. The Marketing Specialist drives community engagement and promotes the facilities, programs, and events through social media, digital marketing, advertising, and print materials.
Promote West Fargo Park District brand and its sub-brands through development and distribution of marketing and communications.
Serve as point of contact for marketing and communication project requests, ensuring transparent communication and timely support to foster strong relationships across departments.
Develop, review and approve marketing materials following established brand guidelines.
Coordinate with external vendors and partners in support of brand and marketing initiatives.
Lead preparation and maintenance of the print and online versions of the West Fargo Parks Activity Guide. Lead project planning, manage production schedule, and communicate updates to internal teams.
Track and report on Key Performance Indicators, providing insights and offering recommendations on ways to further the Park District’s brand and marketing efforts.
Support the distribution of public service announcements, flyers, schedules, news releases, reports and related program information while coordinating information with related and appropriate staff.
Other Duties
Coordinate development and production of all forms of print, digital, video, virtual and audio media, for a variety of needs across the Park District.
Research, design & purchase Park District and sub-entity promotional items.
Update and maintain all facility and park information monitors and signage.
Order and maintain a supply of business cards, name tags, stationary cards, and other correspondence materials.
Coordinate updates to websites, blogs and e-newsletters for West Fargo Park District and its sub-brands.
Coordinate and direct social media posts to and from the public and answer and direct all social media posts to appropriate personnel, including but not limited to postponements, cancellations and announcements.
Additional Responsibilities
Provide marketing and design support for sponsorships and advertising while coordinating with staff.
Conduct market research to identify customer trends, competitor offerings and demographic data to promote the Park District and sub-brands.
Provide assistance and support for programming and events as assigned for the Park District and Foundation.
Prepare required reports, summaries, and board related documentation as needed.
Track and submit invoices in a timely manner, ensuring expenses meet pre-determined budgets.
Follow, support and uphold the West Fargo Park Districts standards and expectations for employee excellence.
Provide indirect supervision over related personnel (Volunteers, interns, etc. ).
Coordinate and attend job fairs, business after-hour events, community and regional promotions, etc. marketing the opportunities of the Park District & its sub-brands.
Attend community/neighborhood meetings and provide presentations when required.
Attend regular and special Foundation quarterly and annual meetings and prepare supporting information for meetings.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in one or more of the following: Marketing, Journalism, Graphic Design, or related field.
Proficiency in standard office technology, including Microsoft Office applications and shared document platforms.
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Canva, and WordPress.
Proficiency in Google and social media applications including Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.
Must have a valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
A minimum of 2 years’ full‑time professional experience is preferred.
Graphic design experience preferred.
Project lead experience preferred.
Photo and video equipment operation & editing experience preferred.
Current certification in CPR/First Aid/AED; or ability to obtain certifications within 12 months of employment.
PIO (Public Information Officer) Certification.
Open records experience or knowledge.
Knowledge of the American Disabilities Act (ADA).
Municipal government experience.
Previous FEMA training.
Professional Accountability
Maintain clear, timely, and professional relationships with supervisors, colleagues, vendors, and volunteers.
Provide regular updates and documentation to support leadership meetings, board materials, and organizational reporting.
Maintain organized records and documentation in accordance with district standards and practices.
Ability to collaborate effectively across departments and work productively with diverse stakeholders.
Ability to exercise sound judgment, problem solve and adapt to changing priorities.
Ability to work independently while maintaining accountability to established expectations.
Work Environment
Primary office location is within the District Administrative Office at the Rustad Recreation Center.
Travel to other district sites, including outdoor facilities, may be required (parks, maintenance facility, arena, activity shelters, etc.) Must be able to work in a frequently changing environment with interruptions. Work involves standard office equipment including computers, phones, and photocopiers.
Occasional evening, weekend, and special event work may be required.
