Core Technical Responsibilities
Provide advisory and consulting services to clients, the Alaska Strategic Communications team, HDR project managers and leadership, with a focus on Alaska transportation infrastructure communications and public engagement.
Drive market development in partnership with Strategic Communications leadership.
Advise communication and engagement strategy on planning, design, and construction projects.
Lead strategic messaging direction for campaign activities.
Direct customer‑facing communication in a variety of mediums including social, print, video and web.
Lead concept development, writing and editing of collateral materials such as surveys, newsletters, websites, handouts, videos, advertisements, press releases and public notices.
Coordinate with creative disciplines including graphic design, web development and social media to maintain consistency of brand, saturation of messaging and user experience.
Coordinate with technical disciplines to accurately translate technical content into easily digestible public‑facing content.
Other Job Responsibilities
Develop and manage project scores, schedules, and budgets.
Direct the work of others and ensure quality of work.
Independently represent HDR at the highest levels within our clients’ organizations.
Serve as a primary client contact for work within your area of expertise.
Build and maintain productive working relationships with your team, internal partners, and clients.
Support and mentor staff.
Lead the development of content related to your area of expertise for pursuits and proposals.
Participate in industry events, committees, boards and personal professional development opportunities.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
Direct experience in communications for transportation infrastructure projects and/or organizations.
20 years of related experience in communications, public relations, public involvement and/or community engagement.
Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, public affairs, journalism, marketing or relevant field.
Public involvement experience, particularly in the AE&C industry.
Deep knowledge of communications plans and campaigns for public involvement, stakeholder engagement and public relations.
Proven ability to develop compelling stories that strengthen messaging and engagement strategies for a program, initiative or project.
Experience collaborating with graphic designers, web developers and social media strategies for a program, initiative or project.
Self‑starter; can work well independently or in a team environment.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or closely related field.
A minimum of 10 years consulting experience and extensive related expertise.
Proficiency with MS Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Access and Outlook.
Excellent interpersonal skills and strong relationship, organizational and follow‑up skills.
