Position Purpose In support of Dartmouth’s Alumni Relations mission, the Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement implements alumni engagement strategies for 90,000+ alumni worldwide, supports volunteer partnerships and leadership to alumni organizations, works with volunteer leadership boards, internal campus partners, ad hoc committees, and task forces, and builds connections between alumni and Dartmouth. The role ensures alignment of alumni engagement efforts with broader institutional goals.

Required Qualifications – Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:

Three years of advancement experience in a complex college or university development operation or the equivalent; volunteer and project management experience.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

Robust interpersonal and communication skill set (written and verbal) for internal stakeholders and engaging diverse constituents (virtual, local, regional).

Strong attention to detail.

Demonstrated initiative and ability to manage complex projects or events.

Analytical and strategic thinking with strong planning and organizational skills.

Ability to articulate Dartmouth’s purposes and programs.

Maturity, intelligence, and professionalism.

Collaborates well in multiple teams.

Experience employing technology and data analytics to optimize volunteer engagement.

Flexible, adaptable, comfortable in fast‑paced environment.

Willingness to travel; work nights and weekends.

Driver’s license required; must remain an Approved Driver under Dartmouth College Driver Safety and Motor Vehicle Policy.

Responsibilities Regional Engagement & Strategy (35%)

Implements long‑term and short‑term strategies for regional alumni engagement.

Identifies opportunities to expand alumni and volunteer engagement, leveraging data and best practices.

Performs work with minimal guidance, exercising discretion and providing insights.

Collaborates with Alumni Experiences and Operations teams.

Tracks progress and measures impact of engagement initiatives.

Oversees portfolio of regions and volunteers.

Builds sustainable volunteer structures in alumni organizations.

Implements in‑person and virtual programs and networking events.

Volunteer and Stakeholder Management (35%)

Recruits, trains, onboards, and manages alumni volunteers.

Manages balanced class portfolio; oversees at least one Reunion class per year.

Works with alumni volunteer groups, committees, and boards.

Serves as liaison to campus partners for regional and volunteer efforts.

Develops relationships to improve alumni understanding of Dartmouth.

Communicates with alumni, volunteers, and faculty to execute strategies.

Oversees final briefings, ensuring accuracy and timing.

Strategic Relationship Management (30%)

Coordinates with Advancement team to ensure consistent alumni communications, events, and reunion planning.

Works with colleagues and campus partners to develop new engagement opportunities.

Considers and recommends approaches to reach other audiences within Dartmouth family.

Manages strategies for priority alumni segments.

Assists with implementation or improvement of initiatives that offer alumni access to Dartmouth resources.

Introduces creative thinking to outreach planning, showcasing Dartmouth’s strengths.

Fosters relationships, engages alumni, sustains culture of volunteerism.

Additional Duties
