Props Designer

The Props Designer is responsible for creating and designing the physical objects used during the show. The Prop Designer will work closely with the Set Designer, and Director to ensure that all props are consistent with the overall visual aesthetic of the production and support the story being told. Working as a Prop Designer is a highly creative and challenging role that requires a passion for the arts and a strong understanding of materials and construction techniques. Requirements Qualifications:

You must be a high school graduate

Understanding of materials and construction techniques

Ability to work within a budget

Organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines

Ability to work well in a team environment

Sketching and rendering skills

Experience with AutoCAD and 3D modeling software is a plus

A portfolio of previous work

A degree in Theater Design, Film Production, Fine Arts or a related field is preferred but not mandatory.

Key Responsibilities:

Research and source materials and props that are appropriate for the production

Create sketches and renderings of props to be used in the production

Build and construct props using a variety of materials and techniques

Collaborate with other members of the production team such as the set designer, director, and actors to ensure that props meet the needs of the production

Maintain prop inventory and ensure that all props are properly stored and maintained

Stay within the production's budget

Attend production meetings to discuss the needs of the production

Supervise and train prop assistants

Ensure that all props are ready for use on time and meet safety standards

About the Company There are many valuable opportunities to create with MTC throughout our season. Whether you are a professional trying to give back to community theater roots or a young artist trying to make your way into a career in production, design, or education. During a typical season we produce four youth musical, one young adult musical, one all ages musical, one adults only musical/cabaret and a performing arts day camp with five overlapping sessions resulting in five youth musical across nine weeks in the summer. All of these productions need Directors, Choreographers, Vocal Directors, Tech Directors, Costume Designers, Stage Managers, front of house positions and more.
